I have been doing some on-line shopping for cushion cuts and I have a question. I see that you can search by cut quality, i.e. IDEAL, PREMIUM, VERY GOOD, GOOD, FAIR and POOR. Does the quality of the cut actually determine how much fire or brilliance a diamond has? What aspects of a diamond actually determines these different ratings?

Yes, the cut determines the brilliance and sparkle. I believe cut quality is based on table and depth %'s and crown angles. There is more I'm sure, that someone else may mention. Also, girdle thickness is important.

There are no magic parameters published for the cushion cut by any of the major labs so you will have to look at stones to see what you like. Wink Wink Jones |
