Hi Everyone,

Okay here is the situation. I have purchased this stone from Whiteflash. Got some good feedback from the forum on this thread. Here are the specs:

LINK to page on WF site
Expert Selection
Shape: Round Ideal Cut
Carat: 0.705
Color: I
Clarity: SI2
Depth: 60.7
Table: 55
Crown Angle: 34.7
Crown %: 15.5
Pavilion Angle: 40.9
Pavilion %: 43.1
Girdle: thin
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 5.78-5.79X3.52

I think it's very nice and I am happy with it, but BF thinks it a bit small. So, I am wondering folks opinions on whether the following stone is a) going to perform better in terms of light return, and b) going to appear noticeably larger.

A Cut Above
Shape: A Cut Above H&A
Carat: 0.775
Color: J
Clarity: SI1
Depth: 60.4
Table: 56
Crown Angle: 34.8
Crown %: 15.5
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Pavilion %: 42.9
Girdle: Thin
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Culet: Pointed
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 5.98-6.00X3.62

Let me post the idealscopes, they do look different. From my perspective it seems there is more light leakage around the girdle area in the .70 than in the .77. Thoughts?

Thank you!

i'm sure someone else may know the answer right away.... but if i were, you i'd ask WF. they'd give you their expert opinion.

Thanks jcrow. That is good advice. I had sent Denise an email, and will give her a call on Monday to discuss, but thought I'd solicit the expert opinions on this forum as well. I know, the two stones' proportions are remarkably similar so it will probably just be down to which one we prefer...decisions, decisions!

If anyone has any strong opinions either way, I'd love to hear 'em.

Cheers,
Kit

I'm by no means an expert, so take this for what it's worth.  I don't think you're going to notice much of a difference between the sizes of those two stones.  0.07 carats is not a huge difference, so I wouldn't worry about which one is bigger.  That being said, I like the IS image of the second (.77 carat) stone better.  Is there much of a price difference?

$1984 vs $2367. So, not a huge difference. Most of the price difference is likely in the fact that one is ACA and the other an Expert Selection.

I think it will depend on what Denise says...I guess I'm also wondering spread-wise what is the visual difference between a 5.78 diameter and a 5.99 diameter...seems like not a big difference, only a quarter of a milimeter. Hmmm.

I believe Mara posted a while back saying that the eye could see the diffrence of .1mm or larger. Which would mean the second would be viasably larger.

Matatora, thank you!

Here is the thread, I think: link

She states:

"You will see anything over .10mm as a difference in my opinion. A .5mm is HUGE from a visual perspective when you get into the larger sized stone."

So, perhaps we will notice the .2 mm difference. Interesting!
