Hi, my boyfriend is currently shopping for my E-ring (I'm not supposed to know), but since he's just about clueless regarding the ring itself (I sent him to PS), I was wondering if it's my job to get the insurance for the ring, or if it's his. And if I'm correct, does that also involve getting the ring appraised first? Some insight would be a great help.

Hi Amber. I cannot wait to see what you decide. Diamonds and colored stones are a great match. Anyways I made FI take care of insuring it. We both went to the appraisal first. They give you a written apprasial with pictures. Then we faxed it to our insurance co (the one for our homeowners). Make sure you get a seperate rider with "loss and mysterious damage" clause. That way no matter what you are covered. I am not sure how much it costs. It is usually $X for over $1,000 the ring is worth. It is really an easy process. Don't worry!

My fiance took out the insurance for my ring, I guess he figured that if I lost it then he didn't want to fork out again for another one! I guess it's okay not to have insurance if you have an inexpensive ring and fancy a forced upgrade later on ![]() We actually had the ring appraised because my fiance's insurance broker would not insure the ring without sight of a proper appraisal. He then found the right policy for us. We made sure the policy covers everything from chipping the diamond through to any kind of loss (when a ring goes missing it can sometimes be hard to know how, where etc, etc).
