Was at the giftcenter/jewelerymart (the store is GIRAUX) in San Francisco today and put a deposit down for a

Round Brilliant
1.61
F
VS1
Depth 60.6
Table 56
Fluor None
Polish VG
Symmetry Ex

GIA certified

under the IDEAL SCOPE, it was IDEAL as well.

price: $16,900

I keep on feeling with the price I can get something better.  But that'll be more money =T  Is there really much of a difference between VS1 and VVS2.  Also, E or F color.  I feel there is difference in my eyes between E and F but the price jump dramatically.

Tell me this is an excellent stone.

looks like a very reasonable price.
no, your eyes will not notice a difference between any vs stone or e/f color.  trust yourself!

Hi Quincy- I've bought from Giraux in SF. They seem to have good prices from what I've heard from other jewelers in the bay area. I would consider looking online with some of the PS recommended vendors. You might be able to get a better stone and have the eyes of PS experts validate the stone for you. Also, you will save big on sales tax. Tax on that puppy will come to $1,394.25, that will buy you a nice setting w/out side stones...just a thought. For my ering I plan on going with a PS recommended vendor, not only for the tax reason, but also because I want the expertise of PSers on my asscher before purchase. Best of luck whatever you decide!

If you see the difference btw an E and F it may be because you're viewing the two side by side, it won't be as discernable as a solitaire.

Just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character.

I would love to buy from a Pscope vendor but for such an expensive purchase I still rather see it in person and buy it from a store.  After doing a price comparison of the stone that I'm about to purchase, the price is actually similar to the vendors on Pscope.  I think Giraux is a pretty good store for its prices and customer service.

Now I wonder what Joe Escobar's Diamonds would give me...they found a 1.56 E VVS2 and a 1.61 E VS1.  If it's more, I think I rather stick with the Giraux purchase.

It's going to be more for VVS2 Clarity.
Those two aren't "equal" comparisons, even with the size differences (which are only slight.)

The stone at Giraux looks good, but I don't think I'd be comfortable not knowing the crown and pavil angles.
Is there anyway you could get a sarin on this stone?

That being said - if you've seen it, and you're comfortable with everything (cut quality, price, taxes) - then I'd say go for it. Are you planning on having it independently appraised?

Scintillating...

Yes get crown and pav angles.

Unless you have lots of experience looking at the best cuts and this one looks just as good to you in various lights, don't buy it.

You may get a much more beautiful stone for the same price or lower.

Tell them to send it out for a Sarin - at this price they should not argue.
Plug the numbers into the Holloway Cut Advisor.
If it scores over two reject it and keep shopping.
