Any chance these might be more than paste? They are in a yucky setting.. but they are a beautiful color. Though a loupe I can see some feathery inclusions.. no bubbles. But they are in a cheap.. (brass maybe) setting. I found them in an OOOLLLLDDDD jewelry box from cuba?

I have absolutely no idea, but that is a very intriguing story! Were they in an old trunk in an attic? Please share! Deb A Girl's Best Friend |

Actually, they were in a a jewelry box that was found in an old Jamacian home by my Step-father. He is well traveled.. and quite rich. The family that had owned the home were very well to do people. He found the jewelry box in one of the cupboards of the home that he was renovating. He brought it back to the states and has had it in his home since the 1950's. He said that the earring MAY have been added sometime in those years by his deceased wife. He took the box to an appraiser and he said that it was made in Cuba.. very strange.

Maybe they were recognizable as the work of some well-known Cuban jeweler? I wish there were a way to find out more! PS-When my great uncle, the last in his family, died, we had to clear out the old house in which my great grandparents (the great aunts and uncles) had lived. My cousin had to call the police (who brought in the bomb squad) because my great uncle had kept a World War II artillery shell in the attic. You wouldn't believe the things we found! Ancient glass bottles with strange yellow liquid that were patent medicines or liquor or cleaning fluid from the 19th century. Toys from the 1940s. Linens from the 1930s. We should have videotaped the house! A Girl's Best Friend |

Hey, they look really interesting...I'd rather not find out for sure and think what they MIGHT be !! Plus, we all love the stories about what is found in an old attic...like a treasure hunt... We actually had an old (nutty) relative hide his old coins, treasures in a secret compartment built into some part of his house... He only told one relative of the location...upon his death, there was, sadly, disputes in the dispersement of his estate...the person who knew of the secret place, refused to tell where it was and believe it or not...the house was sold with the treasure still hidden in it!!! My husband and I have driven by the old place and have wondered if it will ever be found, and if it really was "treasure"!!

If they were emeralds, they would be nice emeralds. It is hard to imagine they would set emeralds in brass. Anyways to ge the metal tested at least? I LOVE stories like that of hidden treasure. Think I read too many Nancy Drew mysteries when young.
