Well, he's not a puppy. He's 11, but I just took these pics and thought I'd share. I wish I knew how to make a collage. Thank you for indulging me....

Move over. I want to cuddle. I adore G. Sheps ... my first was a gigantic boy named Brutus. I loved him so... Such amazing looking beasties! And what large paws! What a sweet puppy Demelza.  I'd love some more pix... Tell us more about Howard (and I adore the name btw). He is a marshmallow?

Ah, thanks, guys! I grew up with GS dogs and when I moved out of my parent's house I knew I had to get a dog to make the transition easier. Our last GS was a nutcase. He ran in circles ALL DAY and ate his own poop. He turned on me one day and attacked, so we ended up putting him down. But I still loved the breed, so I got Howard when he was a little over a year. His old family left him out in the backyard all the time, so he kept jumping over their fence. That annoyed them, so they gave him away. He is the most loyal, attached, affectionate dog I've ever had. He's also protective, which I don't like. He loves women, not such a fan of strange men. Loves my husband to pieces. I call them "my boys".

Thanks for indulging me guys! I can only imagine how I'll be when I have kids

Here are a few more pictures.

First, my boys...

Next, at the river (we have to keep him on leash because if he saw a squirrel, he'd be outta there!)....

Aw what a love muffin!

GS are a great breed, so noble, intelligent, loyal, and loving.
They are the second best at everything, herding, tracking, agility...
It's just amazing what they can do.
They are also the second most widely used breed for companion/guide animals.

It's clear that you have a very close bond as a family.
Thanks for sharing. Give Howard a big hug.

Scintillating...

Did you have a bad experience with a dog? Yes, Howard does scare people who don't know him. To me, he looks like a big teddy bear, but I understand why people would be scared. The dog that attacked me was seriously disturbed. I figured it was just a genetic fluke -- could have happened with any breed. All the more scary, of course, that he was enormous. Luckily, though, he didn't get to my face, just my hands. I have a few scars, but nothing too noticeable.

Thanks, guys, for the nice comments!! This is such a fun group to share stuff with!!

I'm with Mara - he looks adorable but I have always been rather afraid of big dogs - I have a Yorkie and that's about as big as I'm willing to go! Howard is probably a big teddy bear though . . .

I think it's because I haven't had a dog in a while...jogging in school a stray nearly attacked me but that wasn't a big deal...I don't know, I just think they could snap at any time...especially when I hear stories on the news .... But I would def get a big dog again. A shepard or a doberman or a rottie. GEEZ, I'm just not a poddle kind of girl LOL.... Maybe a miniature pincher will have to cut it LOL...

I love Howard. Just love him! I really can't get enough pix of him...He reminds me of my first baby!!!

Oh Dem, he is so adorable!!!

One of our neighbors when I was a kid used to have a GS named Dakota, and when they let him out in the backyard, he would always come through our backyard up our stairs to our deck outside the kitchen door.  He would bark once, and of course, my brother and I would grab the box of dog biscuits and make him give us his paw, roll over, etc.  He was "our dog" in our minds since we couldn't have a dog with my father being sick.  He was such an angel, letting two annoying kids play with him.

And the mini pinchers don't quite know they are minis! I felt bad for that mini pincher on perl's cute scrabble dog site...no one voted for the little feller.

Howard has gotten many extra hugs today from his buddies on PS. It's funny when people say he looks scary because he looks like such a big baby to us (and acts like one). I think one reason GS dogs look scary may have something to do with the ears -- I think floppy-eared dogs look less intimidating than those with ears that go straight up. And the fact that he's 87 pounds (thanks to my hubby -- when he was just my dog, he was a trim 78 pounds). But if I'm not mistaken, I think Jelly's dog is just as big, but his ears are floppy and therefore he looks more playful and more like a puppy. Or maybe people are scared of him too??

I've only known two Min-Pins (as I've heard them called) and both were quite skittish. One was a real barker, like Mara said.

Anyway, Howard is basking in the glow of all your lovely words. He really is a ladies' man.
