ibelly Rough Rock Total Posts: 19 Last Post: 1/10/2006 Member Since: 10/18/2005	i am in the process of purchasing a 2ct princess cut and have found the setting to be hard to decide on. I really like the shared prong A. Jaffe set. I find them quite sparkly yet still sleek and subtle. Here is my question. I saw on another thread that the stone seems to sit a little high.......is this true? and also......do you think that a 2 ct princess will be too large for the ring? I know you can never be too large with stones right? :) I am planning on purchasing (possibly) a stone from WF......If I do go for the Jaffe set, then should I have it set at a local Jaffe jeweler for more $ or should i send the stone to an online Jaffe vendor to have it set for less money? This is getting frustrating and I am trying to put this task to sleep......she is a lucky woman!!!!

mrssalvo Ideal Rock Total Posts: 16,856 Last Post: 11/20/2009 Member Since: 1/3/2005	I think a 2 carat princess would be gorgeous in the A. Jaffe setting. I would send the stone to A. Jaffe and have them set it. I think Butterfly 17 had a local jeweler set her stone into her Ritani setting and they set it incorrectly. I think you can also have the setting sent to WF and they will set their stone in it for you. ----------------------------- A deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want.

I will be getting white gold with a round shank and not the squared shank in the pics. FWIW, my setting is also a Jaffe in white gold. I do have the squared shank, and I like it. I was a little apprehensive at first, thinking it would be uncomfortable, but I don't even notice it. If you are concerned about the height of the setting, keep in mind that the WEIGHT of the stone / prongs will cause the ring to want to twist a little (not as much as with platinum, though)- gravity. :) The squared shank will help prevent that. Also, with the eternity bands, the squared shanks will keep them upright so they don't twist and wouldn't need to be soldered together to keep them lined up. IMHO, if I had the nice eternity bands, I'd want to see them and keep them upright and out of the way of damage that occurs on the palm side of your hand (that's where the majority of scratching occurs).

Mrssalvo....the WF design has the basic concept but I have seen the Jaffe setting personally and it appears to be a little more delicate / subtle IMO. I like it a lot, but I am not sure what the best process for my $ is going to be.

I just posted the pic for others to get the idea of what a square shaped stone would look like with the shared prong setting. The diamonds are small and delicate as you mentioned. I really liked the square shank as well. The band and e-ring will sit flush and it was very comfortable. Don't forget to post pictures, I'll be looking forward to seeing your set! I ultimately chose to get a shared prong diamond setting similar to the one Mrs. Salvo posted. It had a higher diamond count plus it was cheaper. I live in California so i didn't have to pay sales tax, and shipping was free. Nonetheless, that gorgeous A. Jaffe makes a stunning set that your sweetie will definitely love!
