Okay... I have to vent. This is fairly long and I apologize.

Last Wednesday I had to stay overnight at work for the networking guys to lay cable in the pharmacy. Well, I asked one of my coworkers to move my car around to the back of the building so I could get outside without having to walk too much in the dark. Well..... somehow she lost control of an AUTOMATIC (guess she hit the gas instead of the brake), went up onto the curb, and hit the SECURITY GUARD'S car! When backing off the curb she scraped the passenger's side on a sign...

Anyhow, I was fine because accidents happen. The security guard was fine because, according to him, "it's just a gd car." So ever since he's been following me around the building and bugging me about estimates and such (which, by the way, are like $3000 more that what the real damage is.) I can't leave my department without him following me! It's getting to be a real pain in the ass! I've told him if he had any questions then take it up with the adjustor, NOT me. I told my boss what was going on and the only thing she said was "we have to choose our attitude." I don't even know what that means! I mean, it's really hard to be positive at work when you have some doofus rent-a-cop following you! Really, what am I gonna do, tell the security guard?!?

Finally took my car to the VW dealership where the work is gonna be done and was informed that apparently I don't have rental on my policy! TOTAL news to me. Not to mention they were supposed to pre-order all the parts and didn't. So now I'll have to be without a car for the duration that it's going to be in the shop. The collision guy told me that he thinks there's more damage than the insurance listed. They can't go ahead and order those parts until they have authorization from the company. This usually means the adjustor having to look at the car while disassembled at the shop... ugh...

DON'T LET OTHER PEOPLE DRIVE YOUR CAR!!! It's not worth it...

Again, sorry for the long post.

Thanks,
Amanda

insurance wise, is it going towards yours?(like is your premium or whatever going up?!)

Yeah... in Georgia, from what I understand, the insurance claim follows the car and not the driver. So if you let someone drive your car, your insurance policy is to cover them. Which stinks. Luckily, I'm friends with the person that drove my car (or she wouldn't have been driving it ). She will be reimbursing me for the deductible. I already know that's going to break her financially so we'll work out paying me back. She's such a good person and I trust her. And I know she feels absolutely horrible about this.

The security guard... hmmm... what to say about him... He has not been very helpful in this situation. He's upset that Progressive will only pay a certain dollar amount (the estimate) to fix his car. I think he's gonna try to file a claim under HIS insurance so that they can pay the $3000 estimate for his repairs. He will be getting the check in the mail. I think he's going to get the car fixed and then pocket the rest. If that makes any sense.

I can't walk around without seeing him around the corner. It's starting to creep me out. The other day when it was time for me to leave (10:00pm) and I had to wait to exactly the right time to run out the door so he didn't stop me. Luckily he didn't follow me to the parking lot that time.

sounds creepy.
i would probably end up saying "WHY ARE YOU FOLLOWING ME" (on a stressful day)
maybe he thinks he made a new friend in the chaos of all this! hahaha.(or not)
but that's crazy,
i think it was probably a year ago, i let my boyfriend drive my car, and he ended up hitting someone(a car of course!) and it was completely his fault(the location is like the prime zone for accidents where i live) anyways,
and of course he wasn't insured under the car.
but for whatever reason, it went under his insurance.. and nothing changed on mind.

-note- the accident caused over 10,000$ of damamge haha.

his hardly went up to. ah well. its definitely something that made us stronger together.

i've learned the same lesson though, NO ONE drives my car. especially if i'm not there with them(to be the backseat driver ).

what do you plan on doing for the car situation in the meantime?!

I would tell him if he has any questions, concerns, comments, or is lonely and just wants to talk to someone, to call your adjuster.  And tell him politely that this will be the last time you will be discussing this with him because the insurance company is handling it, not you.  And then inform him that if he follows you, harasses you, etc., you will be taking further action, starting with calling the police department and seeing what you can do there.

I'm sorry to hear what happened, and I hope this all just works out ASAP!

The last time he approached me what when he said "I'm just going to file my claim through my insurance.. and I told him "do what you need to do..." and walked away. The rest of the time is figuring out alternate routes to and from different departments so I don't have see him.
You have to imagine this man - short pudgy Italian man from the Bronx. Is he trying to intimidate me? If he is, it's not working... all its doing is pissing me off!!!

ahaha like i said.
maybe he is trying to make a friend
haha. lets hope he gets the hint.

it sucks that you have to re-arrange your routes to avoid him (i know how inconvinient this can get).
hopefully his issues will get fixed sooner then yours will take(by what it sounds). and he'll just go away...

best of luck!

I thank you all very much for your suggestions and your concern. I'll let everyone know how things play out once his car is already fixed.

Did you call the police so a report can be made?? We have learned always to have a paper trail. I know that people that have hit us in the past don't ever want us to call the police...then try to pin the fault on us and ALWAYS want to settle privately. Anyone can go to a mechanic that they know and get an INFLATED price for the damage. They think because we are women that we will intimidate easily. I am from NYC and had this man hit our car, he was an off duty cop, he ran the red light and it was a miracle my husband wasn't killed (the car was totalled)....so I took out my phone right away to call 911 and here started "his big guy routine"....he was telling me that we shouldn't call anyone, that we can take care of this privately, that MY insurance was going to go up....and when he saw that I wasn't impressed, he comes out and tells me that he is an off duty cop.....I told him, "First of all that is why I have insurance  and the car is completely totalled and if you are an off duty cop than you should be ashamed of yourself by blowing that light and trying to get me not to file a claim. I told him....my dad is a retired cop....I DON'T intimidate easily. I AM going to call the cops and have them file a claim....and all 8 people that you see hear that have come up to me have said they will stay around to give their eyewitness report to those cops I will be calling.  He was pissed off but of course he was wrong and couldn't get out of this one...

Tell your bully to talk to your insurance!

Good Luck

I am not quite clear - does the security guard work for your company? Or the building in which your company resides?

Do you honestly feel the guard is behaving in an unprofessional way to make you feel uncomfortable, threatened, intimidated, or unsafe?

If so - You may need to use the "key words" that will get management’s full attention - "hostile work environment, intimidation and harassment". Use it in an email and copy your human resources manager.

As a manager, I can tell you these "key words" will make them jump so high - and resolve the matter so fast - it will make your head spin. They are required by law to formally respond and resolve such written complaints. Just be sure this is how you feel, as this is a serious complaint.

He works for an outside agency that has a contract with his company. I'm not sure if he's just trying to get under my skin or what. But apparently he's been following around my coworker that actually was driving. Unfortunately, there was no police report. I know... stupid stupid stupid. I was working overnight and really should not have left the pharmacy unsupervised as I did. Even if it was just to look at the car. We did get LOTS of pictures of the damage just in case he tried to claim anything else. I think things will die down now that the claim is paid. Thanks for all of your suggestions!

Actually - this was on private property right?  So, it's probably not a big deal that you didn't call the cops: In my state, the police will not/cannot respond or take a report for a motor vehicle accident on private property (like parking lots).  So, if that was the case in your situation and you have similar laws, then you probably would not have gotten much of a response even if you had called the police...  Which can really suck. because then it is up to the insurance companies to determine fault...  and subsequently raise your rates.  Last year, my grandmother "hit" a truck as she was backing out of her parking spot at Target - I was with her and we both were looking for cars coming down the parking lot aisle - and as she was almost entirely out of her space, this truck comes speeding through the parking lot and actually hit her - but since the police couldn't respond, then her insurance co. determined that it was her fault for failing to yield, despite me & other witnesses verifying that the truck was going too fast & hadn't even been in the same aisle when she began backing out... bogus... Anyhow... hope this all gets settled for you and the security guard gets off your back.

The security guard went to talk to me about something today and I yelled 'what the f*cK?!?
Did you not think to contact the adjustor since you still have questions. I can't answer your questions because I'm NOT AN ADJUSTOR! I am a PHARMACIST! I was so proud of myself!!! I finally stood up to him without caring about what other people are thinking. It took out a lot of stress and at that moment there was peace and serenity.

Thanks for everyone's input.
