I came across this Tanzanite at the office one day, its 94 Carats, modified triangle cut, with a Very Good Colour ID. Although I heard that they unearthed a 16,839 Carat Tanzanite near Killimanjaro. NOW I GOTTA SEE THAT!!

I actually have no idea. it was given too me to Laser Inscribe. I think its one of those that get a name and end up on display somewhere. i cant tell you how stressful it was to inscribe, i was so worried that i was going to bugger it up!!! but it went well!

That's BIG! Just what would one do with something like that!? Pala News lists one historic specimen and the three kilogram monster is considered the largest find yet - there are some worrisome pictures at TanzaniteOne... There are many larger gemstones in collections. SOme of them are among the best material of the species because when the chemicals for a particular stone are so prevalent, the stone can form in a more pure environment. When it comes to practical sizes to wear, most of the largest collector stones are simply too large for a person to even hang around their neck. The're a wonder to examine and study. Thansk for the posting. Sure wish you could give us a cleaer photo, too.

A question for the Tanzanite experts on board: I'm considering buying a 7.04 carat Tanzanite. It's a superb color (a shade or 2 deeper blue than Windex with a slight touch of purple), but there is some tiny pitting and very light scratches on part of the table facet. The sales person said that they could be "naturals" and she hadn't noticed them until I pointed them out. (ROFL!!!) I suspect that the stone was either damaged when it was put into the setting or it was previously owned and got reposessed. It's in a ring--bad idea for a Tanzanite, I know.Has anyone seen "naturals" on the surface of Tanzanites or any other colored stones, and do they weaken the structure/integrity of the stone at all? This is the most beautiful Tanzanite I've ever seen and I would buy it despite whatever caused the very slight damage to the table facet. (You would need an eagle eye like mine to see it.) Maybe I could use the damage as a bargaining point to get them to lower the price, but if the stone is in danger of breaking because of it, I won't buy it. What do you think? Hello Gabrielle, Tanzanite is on the soft side so care must be taken. In a ring it is prone to scratch and chip if worn everyday. There are never naturals left on tanzanites. This ring was either previously worn or the stone was taken from another source and reset without repolishing. You could ask them to have the stone repolished but it will loose some (small amount) of weight. If there are no fractures into the stone these surface scratches are not a problem and will go away with repolishing.
