I haven't searched for other stones of the same size but judging by what I paid per carat for a F vs2 Infinity branded AGS000 stone the price seams kind of high.

My price was around 8K per carat while yours is 11.2K per carat.

Any time you go above 2ct. there will be a substantial increase in the /ct. price...due to the very limited supply of larger rough.

I agree with Gary.
If you could find an AGS 0 2.45 G/VS2 for $13,500, it would be a good deal today. That's $13,500 per carat, or over $33K for the stone.
Taryton- is yours a 2 and a half carat diamond?

Of course Princess Cut Diamonds are less on a per carat basis.

Since you say you looked at it, can we assume you saw it in a retail brick and mortar store?
If so, the price seems reasonable if you are satisifed the seller is good.

YOW! That price just hit me right between the nose, but I guess that's about right-- more or less. Although that depth doesn't usually heed a particularly brilliant stone, it certainly gets great spread. The girdle is ideal.

If you do a search of the price scope vendors, (Use the search tool on the top of this page) you may just find about 8 vendors offering a diamond with the same dimensions

Can’t guarantee it’s the same diamond but I have a feeling it is.

ECF8503  It's actually my second post if you count the fact that I sent it twice by mistake.  Sorry if I offended your tender sensibilities.  I don't hear chunchgirl complaining.

Besides, I was calling it as I see it.

Thanks for your comments everyone.  I saw the stone at a local jeweler who came recommended to us.  I thought the stone was very pretty with lots of sparkle.  I am just such a novice and soooooooo afraid to make a mistake.  I feel so fortunate to have found this wonderful site.  I am not 100% sure on a princess cut, I love asschers and just haven't found one that I was impressed with.  He showed me 2 princess's and one radiant.  I didn't love the radiant, here is the spec's on the other princess (which was also pretty but the small one had bit more life to it)

3.o7 carat
70.8% depth
69% table
girdle - slightly thick
culet - none
polish - excellent
symmetry - very good
clarity - vs2
color - G
flour - none

Price - $35,000

I really appreciate all your help and comments - I am so bloody confused

I still say the price is WAY TO HIGH look at God Old Golds website.  They have a Princess the excat same size same color and clarity for 19K  Then they have a 3 carat for 23K.  Unless this stone is a branded stone or an AGS000 (which you make no mention of it being either)  Then you can do better on the price.

Thanks tareyton for the advice, I will check out gog.  The pricing seems high.  What did you think of the spec's on the 2nd stone?

I am not an expert and don't feel comfortable commenting on stone specs.
i would leave that up to an expert.  I can tell you though that from personal experience GOG has beautifull stones.  They will also send the stone to independent appraiser so you can see it in person (if you don't live near NY).  They are one of the best stores period and I would not hesitate to call them or ever buy anything from them.  They are absolutely no pressure and will answer any question you have.

Hey Chunchgirl-
I would say that $35k IS reasonable today- if we're talking about a well cut 3.07carat Diamond with a GIA report calling it G/VS2. It's actually much more reasonable than the $27500 stone based on current market conditions.

The fact that they have the diamond in hand is very important.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I know nothing about princess cuts but researcher once posted this info.
She did a lot of research before buying her 3.22 princess.

According to the new AGS specs and stated in another thread:

For a table size of 55%, you need at least 69.66% depth
For a table size of 60%, you need at least 69.50% depth
For a table size of 65%, you need at least 69.50% depth
For a table size of 70%, you need at least 70.00% depth
For a table size of 75%, you need at least 73.33% depth
For a table size of 80%, you need at least 72.16% depth

Thanks guys, my husband going to call the guy today to talk about pricing a little more and see if he can bring in some more stones to look at.  I let you know what happens.  - I keep flip floping on the which diamond, I'm still not 100 % sure of the princess.  I guess I still need to look at everything.  I know whatever I pick it will be in a halo that I'm sure about, but I haven't seen many princess' with a halo.  Does anyone have any pictures?
