I've been searching the web for smallish private colleges hit by hurricane Katrina. So, if anyone knows of a small private college in the surrounding area that sustained substantial damage, please post here or PM me.

While I don't know of any schools that were actually affected by Hurricane Katrina I do know of a School based website that I'd like to pass on. Last week the directive came down from above that we were to make a website for TX colleges/universities to get out the word about their capacity to help students affected by the storm. As the hours passed we realized schools outside of TX were also interested in participating so our site is now open to all states, all forms of higher education schools. We also have a forum where students can ask questions and receive answers from participating institutions across the country. I realize that education may be low on some people's priority lists when there are so very many more pressing matters at hand, but I believe there are students out there still interested in continuing their education despite this tragedy. I hope even a few find this website useful: Katrinacollegestudents.org

Alabama has people living in our rec center and my paraish is helping to feed and cloth them. I think it is wonderful that everyone is doing what they can. F&I I cannot think of which schools were hit in South Alabama (I think that might have been one) but most any small school in the Gulf Shores area is destroyed. I have friends who are trying to figure out what to do. What do you define as small? -Matatora Courage is the price that life extracts for granting peace Most of the change we think we see in life is due to truths being in and out of favor. |

Thanks guys. Small as in manageable for a team to form to assess damage, formulate a survival plan & subsequently formulate a longer term plan to become operational w/ budgets, planning & help w/ managing construction. Large schools would have staff & be able to tap bigger resources. Smaller schools usually don't have that & usually cost prohibited. ....just thinking in areas that we may help make a difference. Yes, Tulane isn't opening this semester & has been effected. It's also a very large school. Hopefullheidi - thanks for the link - it will be useful. Surprisingly, many campuses are o.k. Damage - yes - devestation to some but not all. Unfortunately, the infrastucture for the areas are so badly damaged. But, I think it's great how some schools are opening their hearts & doors. At one of the private universities here - many many states away, we have two law students and few undergrads. The tuition is gratis for at least a semester. Yes, in the big scheme of things, this isn't top priority; but, we do what we can do.

My father in Panama City just met a nice chinese girl that just got transferred from Tulane to Johns-Hopkins University. She's had it rough. Flew in from China on Thursday, evacuated on Friday and has just flown to Johns-Hopkins University the other day. She knew little english. He wanted to invite her to dinner because my mom is also Chinese, but she left before he could offer. He thought that a night talking with someone who knew her language would make her feel a little more comfortable in a new country. Oh well. He had good intentions. He helped her get in contact with her family back home though and she was very grateful. Talk about an upgrade though. I'd love to go to that college.
