Hi,

Hoping someone has some advice on a subject that I admit I don't know where to start.

My husband and I need to give a gift to someone - and we know that he has a love of music. Two of his sons play instruments are in musical college - and he has a love of classical and symphony music.

So, we'd like to get him tickets to something "good". I'm not exactly sure what he prefers in that way - so that's where we are stuck.

I don't necessarily want to get him tickets to an event on a certain date (unless he can exchange them if a date doesn't work) OR it's a Knock Out - must be at this event type of thing.

I noticed that the New York Philharmonic has "flex passes" which sound pretty cool -that we could get for him and he can use for any concert this season.

So - can anyone help with concerts or events in the NYC/Long island area?? Anyone know of a "great do not miss" event that I should investigate.

Anyone have suggestions of where to look??

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE..

What about seeing if Lincoln Center has something comparable with a gift certificate?  So many different options to choose from there...

Hmm - that's a good idea too. Going to check now. The Tilles center on long island has lots of stuff too.

Ok.. 3 choices.. :)

The Tilles center is great. Don't forget about the Westbury Theater.

There's also the LI Philharmonic. They're good.

I think that choosing any type of music for someone is tricky. My father, for instance, now only listens to string quartets! If I got him tickets to an opera or a symphony he would not be particularly happy.

The gift that was a huge success with him was an iPod, which I manage for him. He thinks that the quality of the music on an iPod is truly great and he gets to pick exactly what goes onto it!

I am not recommending an iPod, but am urging caution if you truly know nothing about his man's musical tastes.

Let us know what you decide and how he likes the gift you choose!

An ipod would be a great idea.. but he already has one and listens to it constantly.

I found a really cool MP3 player that is waterproof - and you can listen to it while swimming. He's a swimmer as well and that also might be a cool gift.

I found that the NYC philharmonic has the "Flex Pass" which operates really like a gift certificate for their 2005-6 season. The Lincoln center has TONS of programs and has gift certificates that work for any. The Tilles center has some interseting programs and some reasonably priced gifts. .but I think would need to choose - and I agree that's hard.

I agree with the "tastes" of music as well. I know some people can't stand chamber music.. for whatever reason, but love other forms of the same piece played otherwise.

So.. THANKS a bunch.. we need to decide this week I think..
