Hey guys and gals, Wanting a bit of advice, I've finally narrowed my choice down to 2 stones and was wondering what your advice would be and which stone would be better. They are both F VS2 stones ideal cut and "hearts and arrows" in symmetry. 1) 1.03cr AGS certified no comment on girdle Table 56 Depth 61.7 Measurements 6.46x6.49x3.99 AUD$10790 2) 1.02 GIA certified Girdle commented as slightly thick Table 57 Depth 62.5 Measurements 6.37x6.42x4.0 AUD$10330 The broker has said that there is no difference in quality and that I'd be ok with the second stone but my understanding is that 57 is the higher end of the acceptable ideal as is the 62.5 and ideally the girdle should be no more then medium. The measurements also appear to be pushing the edges of ideal. Am I splitting hairs? What do you guys think? Finally is this an acceptable price? |

Of the two you posted, #1 seems to be the pick. What is the exchange rate to USD? I have no idea about pricing because I don't know conv. of your money. Also, is ARG a reputable lab over there? Ultimately, pending price - I'm not overwhelmed by either stone.

We have very little data on the 2 stones so far, but no.1 is more attractive to me because of its spread. I have no clue about ARG. It may be a small, local but reputable lab though. An appraisal may be the key to solve our doubts.

Sorry I don't know where I got ARG from, its obviously AGS (corrected my mistake)AUD $10790 is about USD $8140 and AUD $10330 is about USD $7790, this includes 10% GST. Is it worth the extra bucks, I feel probably, but if the difference can't be determined by the naked eye, then I wonder if it is worth it?

If it's AGS then the cert should list crown and pavillion angles - also girdle. We could use the extra information. Have you seen both side by side? The extra money for the first stone is less than 5% - not alot in the big scheme of things.

Just with this info I would go with the first diamond. Measurements are better, depth seems better and table better. Can't tell if pushing ideal on either since there may be other things to consider such as crown, pavilion etc. Hope this helps, Michael |

Have you looked at buying in the US online? I have looked at diamonds in Australia and they seem somewhat overpriced.
