I have finally come close to figuring what I want to reset my e-ring, but have determined that it will have to be custom made (imagine that!).  I am trying to decide between a couple of vendors here that I have had initial contact with, some have been very nice in replies to my questions and I have seen such lovely custom work here on the forum.

What I am wondering is~when you have custom remounting done, do you send your diamond ring to the designer and have them set your stone, or send the designer the dimensions of your stone and have a jeweler near you set it?

I am afraid of sending my stone away, however, shouldn't the artist be able to complete the whole piece in order to be sure it is as expected?

????????????

Baroque, I do believe you would have to send your stone to the jeweler for them to do a true custom piece. If you work with one of the PS vendors here I wouldn't be too worried about them doing anything fishy to your stone. Personally, I believe the whole point of doing a custom piece is to have the jeweler design your setting specifically around and tailored to YOUR stone and it would make sense that they would need it in order to do so. Also, (and I am not sure how this would work), but there might be some issues with warranty if you have the setting custom made and then had another jeweler actually set the stone. You might want to check on that. Gooduck!
