Should I suggest to my girlfriend to drop the ring in the ultrasonic several times a week, or even every day for 10 min? It is a larger 1 quart model and has a basket in it. Or will this much cleaning errode the gold somehow?

That is fine.
Probably 3 minutes is enough.
Metal baskets can put small scratches on the gold. Can it be covered where the ring sitss or hangs?

I can put a hook in it instead of the basket. Thanks.

$65 for a very small one for rings, up to $180 for one that holds a quart and is large enough for other things besides jewelry -- on up to much more than that for huge ones.

I just bought one from the jewelry store for $15 - they said it was a popular one and that 2 of the jewelers had just bought one - it was quite small, but I'm not cleaning the whole neighborhood either. Course they charged me $20 for shipping which seemed outrageous. But that was fine, cause I bought a 15x loupe from them for $22 then they found out they were supposed to charge $75.
