Hi gang,

Ok - its been 1 great year now since I got married and I finally had the nerve to get over my sentimentality and sell my wedding dress. The only way that I managed to do it was by telling myself that I could spend the proceeds on jewelry! Yippee!

Now ofcourse it would be tempting to add money to the total amount, but I want what I buy to be symbolic of the dress. I managed to get $500 for it, so that is my budget.

Any ideas?

I originally thought that I could buy some diamond stud earrings, but they would be so small....

Am I better off getting a pendant? Or has anyone seen anything else interesting?

I would value all ideas, and thanks in advance!

i would buy a simple band as a stack band to wear with your other rings----------a ring is the most symbolic of your marriage

Does it have to be jewelry? How about your favorite classic book in a 1st edition? Maybe a new bezel for your favorite watch? A CD or bond that appreciates on your 10 year anniversary (then you'll have even more money to spend ) How about an antique jewelry box to hold your other precious items? Use the money getting a portrait painted of you and yours. Those were just a few ideas of things that aren't going to depreciate and could last a lifetime like a jewel.

I'm a male so my jewelry knowledge isn't great... listen to the other ladies if it's really more sparkles you're after.

Okay I dont think there are many first editions out there for 500$...but if you know of any Dorothy Parker ones let me know.
I also dont think you could find a decent artist to do a painting for less then about 4grand.
But what about taking you and your honey and getting a Glamour Shots thing done?
Or what about buying something really spiffy for you husband. Like an Ipond mini and the Bose sound deck so he can listen to it anywhere? You could even load it for him with his favorite songs.

I think whatever you get should be something you will keep forever and not upgrade etc. So no technology or anything like that. I agree re: earrings being maybe a bit small for $500...esp if you get the upgrade bug later.

I like the pendant idea, or maybe a subtle low ctw diamond bracelet or something?  Or a RHR?

I know I have said this about a gizallion times but what about a charm bracelet? You could buy the basic bracelet now and buy one charm that makes you think of your wedding...then you hubby could get you a charm every so often. There are a ton of diffrent styles of charm bracelets now I picked three which I think are pretty and diffrent from each other. All three bracelets and the charm are from James Avery.

I like the pendant idea myself ... a few years back I got a pretty platinum cross with channel set princess cut diamonds on an 18inch chain from Overstock for about $400. Don't know the TCW, but it's very sparkly and gets noticed when I wear it - I wore it for about 3 years straight until my boyfriend got me the Tiffany open heart pendant. I recently saw some very pretty pendents & e.r in white gold at the Saks Outlet ... some awesome little known designer ... if you have a Saks 5th outlet by you, you could check that out. There was a pendant & some e.r I was DYING for ... but, alas, the e-ring hunt has overshadowed all other pursuits!

thanks guys,

I like the charm bracelet idea, matatora!

We are actually going to the caribean in 2 weeks and I think that there are a lot of jewellery stores there. Maybe I will have a look around. A pendant seem like a great idea too, but I haven't seen any really great styles yet.

And Mara, I do agree - I will not be buying technology. Especially, as I think that this momento is for ME not HIM!

HAHAHAHAHA - More jewelry!!!
