2carrots Rough Rock Total Posts: 41 Last Post: 12/25/2002 Member Since: 10/29/2002	I am considering buying a stone with the following specs.: 1.51 F VS2 AGS cert Cut Grade: Ideal Pol: Ideal Sym: Ideal Proportions: Ideal Depth: 62.1 Tbl: 56 Flor: None They are asking for $13,000. Is it a good buy? Everything else I have looked at with these specs. runs for about $14,000-15,500.

Not sure how that rates on value compared to your F-VS2 for $13,000. I've been looking for in the same price range have had either medium or strong flourescence, which I don't want. I've been surfing the internet for a comparable deal, but the other two stones that I've inquired about with specs. similar to the stone I've been looking at have sold within a day or two. It's been VERY frustrating.

Get the crown and pav angles from the cert, run them in Cut Advisor, and if the it scores a 2.0 or better then buy it. If it scores 1.0 or better, quickly buy it. The only thing an appraiser would be good for is to verify that the stone matches the cert. I am sure it does, and you can tell by using a loupe in the store and match a few of the inclusions and have them weigh it in front of you. Other than that, appraisers are good for checking non certified stones or stones from weaker companies than AGS. I mean, look at it good yourself and check for cracks of course. 2carrots Rough Rock Total Posts: 41 Last Post: 12/25/2002 Member Since: 10/29/2002	I ran the stats on the HCA and it came up as a 1.7 with the following results: Light Return - Excellent Fire - Very Good Scintillation - Very Good Spread or diameter for weight - Very Good I was hoping for Excellent with the first three, but I have a budget I need to stay in. Is there a noticeable (to the eye) difference between very good and excellent? By the way, the jeweler is going to waive the sales tax for me, so that makes my decision even harder. I've been browsing the goodoldgold.com website and would've loved to have bought from them, but everything they have is out of my price range. Even the SI1 on the site is out of my range. Besides, I figure why not buy the VS2 if it's cheaper? Any thoughts?

It seems like when they say anything under 2.0 is excellent, they really mean it. So far it seems like the best deal. And while the 1.7 might not be as satisfying numerically as 1.0 or less, it would seem like there is no way around that without spending another $3000 and probably for no difference in the end. I would just take satisfaction in the AGS000 and pretend these other factors do not exist and get it.
