Hi I was wondering whether you could recommend stores for wedding dresses in London? I'm from Austria and won't even bother looking here as I know that I won't find anything nice! I'm in London quite a bit and know a lot of stores but never had a look for bridal gowns (well not until my boyfriend proposed to me :-) Anyway, I'm looking for a simple style. I think in English you call it "sheath". I'm quite tall and slim and would like some fine material (not satin or whatever) and a long, sort of narrowish dress (strapless) or maybe spaghetti straps. Maybe a little veil. It can cost up to £ 3'000. I would consider myself "classic/modern" and the last thing I want is to look like a princess!"[8) I would be SOO glad if you could recommend a place to go! Thank you so much! |

Hi asscher trouble! Welcome to Pricescope and congratulations! I'm pretty sure you could go into any store and find a dress of that style in your price range. The thing that will vary is the quality of service you receive. Sorry I can't help you more than that!

Hi Asscher Trouble: Since I have not been dress shopping in London, the only advice I can give is Augusta Jones. From what I have seen in their website, their dresses are very streamlimed and modern, with plenty of sheaths and slim styles. (I am particularly fond of the Lena style but won't even try it on since it's way out of my budget )). The website augustajones.com lists 3 stores in London and 5 in the greater London area. Good luck in your search! Regalada

Hey regalada Thank you so much for your tip. I went to the Augusta Jones homepage and the dresses look perfect! Really what I was looking for! You are a star. Now, I didn't see a "lena design" and also, how do you know how much the dresses are? I didn't see any prices. Thanks again

I've ordered my dress from Morgan Davies which is located just up the road from Angel Tube Station. They sell a range of designers and Annalize is really switched on as she has a fashion background. Morgan Davies I'm over from Bahrain for my final fitting in September, so they're used to international customers. Browns Bridal also has a good range of slim fitting dresses on the ground floor, but I found Annalize more enthusiastic about working with what I wanted to look like, rather than just picking one dress. Other UK based designers with shops in London include Ritva Westenius, Sassi Holford, Caroline Castigliano, Alan Hannah etc..... Hope this helps! ============================= |

just_looking thank you soo much! Your tip is extremely helpful as I think the places you recommended are absolutely great. And really what I was looking for (well, it may be a different matter once I've tried them on) ;-)

hi asscher trouble, i don't know of any particular store in london i could recommend. but since you seem to be to the uk frequently, why don't grab a couple of bridal magazines at the airport next time you go? you might even be able to buy some in austria (in case you are willing to pay the triple price, hehe). there are tons of gowns featured you can buy in the uk PLUS they always have a section in the back with local retailers. in case you have found a couple of designers you like, you could call the stores to find out what they have. i have recently bought a uk magazine and found that there were plenty of gowns in there that were decent. not too many "sissi"-styles, hehe. regards, kaschmir

I got married in London two years ago and I bought my dress from Caroline Castigliano. The store stocks Caroline's designs, plus Christiana Couture, and five other upscale designers. The store is located on Berners Street, W1. My dress cost just under £3000 and they range, I think, from £2000-£10,000. Really helpful staff, too. Another great store is Ritva Westenius on Connaught Street, W2. http://www.ritvawestenius.com/ Also check out Liberty, the department store on Regent Street, W1. They stock a wide variety of styles and designers i.e. Vera Wang, Reem Acra etc. etc. And you will need to make an appointment ahead of time with all three stores. Good luck!
