I've decided to start a seperate thread for this (I initially added my question to an old SMTR topic)...

I'm considering another setting for the 1.08 RB. in YG. This would be the 3rd change(technically the 4th but I count the six-prong 'Tiffany' as essentially the same as the very first) DH is going to disown me, but anyways...

What do you think? Yay or Nay and Why?

I've tired of the prongyness of the 'Tiffany' and RB just feels too small for this type of setting. I'd like something with less projection, short or pref. no prongs.

I thought this E14k ring should be more suitable for everyday wear(esp with the baby due)?

I'm also thinking it might better match my orig wedding band?(please see below)

***
My second bright (or not-so-bright) idea is to have the FayCullen guard remade into a semi-eternity ring.

Or into euro wire earrings(with each arc of marquises made into a dangling piece)

Is it terrible to take apart a vintage piece?

I'd love feedback and/or alternative, similar-style setting suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Oh why do I love things at first but get tired of them so fast?

sigh. it's from the 50s, so I have a bit of guilt re: using it for scrap parts.

OTOH, I never wear it anymore and there's this nagging "My solitaire is inadequate, so let me throw these extra stones around it' factor that I wasn't totally conscious of when I asked for it.

Someone mentioned therapy in another topic... hmmmm?

Personally, I'm all for recycling.  If the Fay Cullen marquise ring guard was a piece from my family, I would have more reservations about changing it, but since it isn't, I like the idea of making earings with it.

Don't shoot me, but I'm not crazy about the first pic you posted.  The ring is too square for my taste.  And, I think setting the stone so low takes away from it.  My grandmother had a ring like that and while a lot of people liked it, I wasn't crazy about the style.

If you're wanting to go prong-less, what about a semi-bezel?  I really like elepri's setting.  I didn't save a pic of it, but it's a solitaire with a half bezel on each side.

If you find the name of a good doctor, PM me so I too can set up an appointment.

LOL! about the doc...

*bang bang* j/k.... yeah, the E14k *is* quite boxy! I guess I'd have to try it on to be sure. I just want something different/odd/ sorta old-timey/Secondhand Rosey. All of the halo rings out there are wonderful but getting majorly trendy & I think usually better-looking in white metals.

Elepri's ring is beautiful yet a bit too Mod/contemporary for my style tho'.

More suggestions welcome!!

Don't kill me either, but I'm also not a big fan of the boxy look of the first picture you posted.  It reminds me more of the shape of a man's ring for some weird reason.  However, I sorta get where you're trying to go with this and wonder what about something like kittykat's ring??  I LOVE the setting...LOVE how the prongs look and give the ring that squared off vintage look w/o being boxy?  I adore that scrumptious setting!!!

Are you looking for something that looks engagment-y, or not?

Here are two more I thought were cool, but I'm not sure I know what you're looking for anymore!!

I must admit I too am not crazy about that E14 (?) ring.  I am in a similar process as you though - trying to change from a 6-prong 'prongy' "tiffany" style setting but something that would sit lower, not catch on things and go with my YG wedding band.  And be unique.

Thanks FG & Odilia! I do like the second one you posted, similar to kittykat's. It's engagement-y but that's fine w/me as I'd love to use it as an alternate e-ring.

I looked at wannabuyawatch but if i remember correctly, everything was plat. right? I'd like YG. I'm also not sure if the head of the ring should be plat/wg or to continue the YG throughout? I do love the more rounded paw-prong look. Seems less jabby and sharp.

LOL! FG about the man's ring look, my mom said the same thing!! D'oh!

Odilia - Yes, those high prongs are getting to me! :P I've seen some low-basket settings that are nice but too contempo. ...plus, I feel my stone is too small for those. Please feel free to post anything you find in this thread too!

Hey Kayla...

I must have a fixation...I keep trying to push Hest's sister's ring on everyone else..  And I know it has a halo,  but....

I think this ring would look fabulous in YG...with NO other diamonds involved.  I think it is well proven here that you can put  a round peg in a square hole..or at least a round diamond into a square box!!

I tend to agree that halo rings are awfully trendy right now...(don't shoot me everyone!)...but to me,  this one is something else entirely..

Just a thought...

Yes, that's exactly the type of ring I'd love! Something subtle(I've already got the flashier mood with Roval's setting), pretty, and old-world... Is there a thread for it?... I'm searching but finding nothing yet.

So, maybe I do want a box but not one so sharp as the e14k? I've ordered it to check it out in person anyways.
