At some point I'm going to buy a half carat diamond and start the upgrading process from that. (I'm not giving up my original stone!).  What should I do with setting it...I don't want to have a loose diamond sitting in my jewelry box.  I was thinking of setting it in a simple basket setting and wearing it as a necklace.  However, I don't want to end up with basket settings each time I upgrade, that would be a waste of money with each upgrade!  I already have chains so I don't need that.  Can the vendor I work with buy back the setting also...is that something that has been done before?

depending on how big a jump you make, many times they can fit the new stone into the same setting. If not, a lot a people keep their setting and put CZ's in them. I don't know of any vendors who will buy back or take a setting as a trade unless it's a designer setting of some sort.

Thanks!  Do you know of anywhere online that I can buy an inexpensive gold setting for a diamond?  I don't want it to be fancy.  I really like WF's pendants, but I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a setting that won't be used for very long.  The less expensive the better, without compromising integrity of course!  I'm just wondering if online would be cheaper than going to an B&M?

most venders and B & M's carry basic gold setting which shouldn't be too expensive. I'm confused are you looking for a ring setting or a pendant setting?

I'm looking for a pendant setting.  I figure it would be less expensive, and it's something I could wear often.

I bought a 4 prong basket pendant setting for my 0.38ct round recently and it was only $55 (white gold).  I already had the chain.  I got it at a local B&M store.

stullers has low cost 14k pendant settings that look decent.
Id have the vendor you buy the diamond from source the setting from stullers and mount it.
The one pictured above is likely one such.

So any of these PS vendors have access to Stuller?  If so, that would be best...get everything from one source!

I believe most if not all PS vendors would be able to get in stuller pieces.
