I guess my priorities have changed since becoming a mom.....my single girlfriends are paying mega bucks on clothes etc. to make them beautiful, and I just can't justify spending that kind of money anymore. So, here's my poll to figure out if I'm just cheap or everyone's frugal like me (saving up their money for diamonds :). 1) for a pair of jeans |

1) for a pair of jeans: $50-$100. So far I haven't paid more than 60 bucks for any pair of jeans. 2) for a pair of shoes: Depends on the shoe type. I have paid $130 for running shoes before. I am cheap on most shoes other than running and steel toed boots, those I pay out the nose for. 3) for a nice going-out outfit: Since my "nice" outfits are the same as my normal outfits....whatever the jeans cost and the $14 (max) Old Navy Perfect Fit tshirt. :) 4) for a nice dinner: $120 5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc): I pay about $100 a month on color alone, I would pay whatever it took to get what I wanted. 6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example): The most expensive makeup item I own is Cle De Peau concealer and I barely use it. So, no more than that probably. 7) for a pair of sunglasses: don't wear em but I generally buy from Target. 8) for undergarments: $10 for undies, in a multipack, and $70 per bra from Nordies. Only bras I can find in my ginormous size. 9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be): My gift is my hair and a trip to target. So whatever that bill ends up being :) 10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit: HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA! Work out?! HAHAHAHAHAH! My swimsuit for the honeymoon cost $2.98 at walmart.

I love clothes and fashion, so I tend to spend alot on those items. With my hair, I do my own color (never found a good colorist, I'm the best one I know!) and get my hair trimmed once every 5 weeks or so, so $60 is even pushing it to me. I don't care for designer sunglasses, I always lose 'em anyway. Undergarments I like alot, so I spend some money. that's about it..... IrishEyes,AJP (GIA) |

Ok, I feel like I've always had a really good balance. I've never needed only the expensive stuff, and my wardrobe is mixed with budget to more higher end items. I feel like shopping smartly makes a difference too, like not going last minute for a new dress but if I know something is coming up I keep my eyes open. One time I fell in love with a dress at bcbg for $280, and then I went to Bloomingdales I found it marked down to $60! They're notorious for practically giving away clothes though. So even though there are max. amts that I'd pay, and have paid. I'm only 22, no kids, not married, my parents are still a significant source of financial support, once they cut that off, maybe I'll be singing a different tune

Interesting thread. Do you mean the most that we have ever spent or the most we would spend on any given day? I ask because there are those one time deals where one just splurges without any thought to money, like when they are on vacation, honeymoon, etc. and then there are those everyday occasions. If you mean just everyday, out of the blue spending, then this is what I would normally spend. For those "I don't know what the hell got into me/us", then anything goes. 1-jeans-$180 2- shoes-$150/ $200 for boots (the most I've ever spent was $450 for Gucci shoes) 3-going out outfit-$200 4-dinner-$100 per person 5-hair- $120-$150 6- makeup item-$36+tax (chanel stuff and touche eclat) 7-sunglasses- $300 8-underwear- I buy Body by Victoria- so I would guess anywhere between $24 to $36 for a bra(?) 9-gift for self- priceless 10-swimsuit/workout outfit- these I usually get on sale- $50 What the hell, just get the jeans!!!!! I bought a pair of Seven maternity jeans from a pea in a pod for $175 when I was about 5 months pregnant. That was one of my" what the hell got into me" days. I wound up buying a second pair on ebay for half the price. I have to say though, the one's from ebay look like someone just cut the top and added a spandex band to it, while the ones from pea in a pod look really put together and well tailored. Both will be sold on ebay once I am in prepregancy form! "I'm a Brat" - Mara (PS Queen) |

1) for a pair of jeans...."$50.00" Express Jeans are the only jeans I've found in my size that I don't have to order online. 2) for a pair of shoes...."$50.00" I'm so rough on shoes so I can't justify spending more than that when I kill them quick. 3) for a nice going-out outfit..."$150" 4) for a nice dinner.."175.00"We hardly ever eat out. I prefer our own cooking plus we have fun cooking together ![]() The service is way better, too ![]() 5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc)..."$0.00" I cut my own 6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example)..."125.00" I will splurge here 7) for a pair of sunglasses..."10.00!"...because I lose them everytime I turn around. 8) for undergarments.."40.00" 9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be)..Dunno..but probably not much. I guess the cosmetic splurge would count here. 10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit..."$45.00" Tommy Girl Tankini...shhhhhhh, don't tell anyone that it's almost six years old

ERROR, ERROR Does not compute!!! Invalid question!!!!! LOL, I thank all the lucky stars in heaven that I married cflutist after reading this!!!! ![]() ![]() Probably the most expensive thing we'll spend money on is the nice dinner...we've probably had a few on our anniversaries, b-days, etc that were about $150. For everything else on the list, inclusive, $100-200 would probably cover it....in total for the past 5 years at least! Probably for both her and for me!!!! I guess we just don't spend money on those things...... Great questions! Jaysonsmom, go for the Sevens. They are flattering on every size butt. I happen to spend a lot on jeans because I wear them all the time. I justify the cost by using my method of "per wear". For the number of times I wear the jeans, I can easily make them seem worth the price I pay! PER WEAR--I live by it!!!!

Ehh...if you didn't love the jeans, go back to something you love! Or if you want a pair of sevens, wait til a style comes out that you really like. 175 is not what I'd spend on a pair of jeans I was just "ehhhh" about, when I spend that much, its on a pair I LOVE! (or can go to work in) I have a range, all of mine aren't that expensive, but I wear a pair of my sevens or citizens when I want them to look a little nicer, just because those cuts do look nicer on ME, which it totally depends on your body type, which is what you have to buy for. If I could buy jeans that I felt fabulous in for $50, I would. My body has changed and the brands I loved 5 or 6 years ago no longer fit me the same way. I guess I just wouldnt spend the money if I wasn't thrilled with them, so don't do it (And I wish my bf would see that I'm trying to talk someone out of an expensive purchase instead of trying to talk them into one )

re jeans honestly i have found that the cheaper styles just don't work for alot of body types...especially mine! i used to buy express jeans and other styles when i was younger but ever since trying Seven and AG and all the expensive jeans that are out there, I find that I really like them better and then I wear them more and therefore as someone noted, the per wear amortizes out the expensive costs. I live in jeans during the winter, I have like 8-10 pairs that I wear all the time..my fave is AG because Sevens seem to be made more for stick-like girls than girls with too many curves..but I think the latest Joe Jeans or something is one that my curvy friend raves about so I think I have to try them out. Also she really likes Paper Denim and Cloth. because I dislike spending the $150-175 on jeans for each pair, I usually go into the stores, try on various styles, find out what fits and what doesn't, then try to find the style number (and hopefully wash style) on eBay for less. I have managed to do this with a few pairs and got them for $75 instead of the retail price, brand new just fall season instead of spring or whatever. Usually their wash styles change but not necessarily the style of the jean from season to season. so i say if you want the expensive pair and it looks fab on you, get them! if you will wear them alot, it makes sense IMO! ________________________________ |

Date: 7/29/2005 7:18:27 PM Author: nutty hee hee... this does seem a little dangerous... ![]() 1) for a pair of jeans $200 2) for a pair of shoes $100 3) for a nice going-out outfit $200 4) for a nice dinner For two? MAYBE $200 5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc) $100 and this would be like once every couple years 6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) $15 7) for a pair of sunglasses $100 8) for undergarments $15 9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be) ![]() 10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit $70 It's so interesting to read everyone's opinion on this! Like for me and my husband, we really don't eat out often and really wouldn't spend that much to eat. I can't remember the last time we actually did spend $200 on a meal... but that is the MOST I would be willing to spend. However, I would easily spend that on jeans, as I wear them EVERYDAY, so I would definitely get my money's worth out of that. A new hairdo... eh... I would spend that every once in awhile. But I literally get my hair done MAYBE once a year. I've had my same sunglasses for the last 7 years. So... it's just fun to see where everyone else's "priorities" are!
