OT Poll: What is the most you'd pay.....

I guess my priorities have changed since becoming a mom.....my single girlfriends are paying mega bucks on clothes etc. to make them beautiful, and I just can't justify spending that kind of money anymore. So, here's my poll to figure out if I'm just cheap or everyone's frugal like me (saving up their money for diamonds :).

1) for a pair of jeans
2) for a pair of shoes
3) for a nice going-out outfit
4) for a nice dinner
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc)
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example)
7) for a pair of sunglasses
8) for undergarments
9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be)
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit

Here are my answers:

1) for a pair of jeans :$60
2) for a pair of shoes: $80
3) for a nice going-out outfit: $100
4) for a nice dinner:$30-40 per person
5) for a new hair do (cut, color, perm etc): $150
6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example) :$15
7) for a pair of sunglasses: $15 (I always lose mine)
8) for undergarments: $30
9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be): $$$$ usually diamonds
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit: $60

3) for a nice going-out outfit: $200-350 (depending on how often I'd wear it...my engagement party dress was something like $280)
4) for a nice dinner: $700 (haha did you see my post about our dinner in NYC?)

6) for a cosmetic item (lipstick, foundation for example): Dont buy much makeup but I use MAC so whatever that costs..aka $15 for lipgloss
7) for a pair of sunglasses: $200 (if it's name brand like Chanel)..but normally more like $75 for Ralph Lauren, love their sunglasses
8) for undergarments: $85 (for a sweet litlte Cosabella pair) )
9) for a 'gift' to yourself (whatever it may be): No limit?
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit: $100

This is tough to answer because it really depends. aka I have spent $175 on jeans but I prefer to get the same brand on eBay for $75. But I WILL spend alot on the right pair of jeans if I have to. Same with things like shoes, sunglasses etc. If I can find it on eBay I will always get it for cheaper. But I have paid retail in the past. However NO WAY would I pay all of the above costs all at once, aka I don't go shopping and buy a $175 pair of jeans, $150 pair of shoes, $200 on an outfit, $200 for sunglasses etc. It's more like I will treat myself to the jeans or something every few months and buy more 'reasonable' things in the other categories. Normally I don't spend the MAX on anything, but that's what I have paid in the past or would pay for something if it was THE swimsuit or THE pair of jeans etc.

That said, it's just us, no kids...though I do spend about $100 each month on food and treats for Portia.

Ok, I feel like I've always had a really good balance. I've never needed only the expensive stuff, and my wardrobe is mixed with budget to more higher end items. I feel like shopping smartly makes a difference too, like not going last minute for a new dress but if I know something is coming up I keep my eyes open. One time I fell in love with a dress at bcbg for $280, and then I went to Bloomingdales I found it marked down to $60! They're notorious for practically giving away clothes though. So even though there are max. amts that I'd pay, and have paid.  I'm only 22, no kids, not married, my parents are still a significant source of financial support, once they cut that off, maybe I'll be singing a different tune

2) for a pair of shoes $100 or under for every day shoes, but for special occasions or boots I'm ok spending more

4) for a nice dinner $200-300ish, for a couple, we're too young and broke to really afford any more!
5) for a new hair do I don't color my hair, my hair cuts are only $50
6) for a cosmetic item $15-40, depending on what it is, but I try not to spend too much
7) for a pair of sunglasses $40 max! sunglasses never last long under my care! so its pointless spending a lot!
8) for undergarments $60ish for a set? I don't really pay attention to that one
9) for a 'gift' to yourself my upcoming gift to myself is $3000, but sometimes it can just be treating myself to a new lipgloss for $15 and be just as happy!
10) for flattering swimsuit/workout oufit I hate spending a lot on those, I'm not at the beach enough to justify spending a lot, and my work out stuff...almost everythign is adidas and the most expensive are probably the pants I like and they're around $50, everythingelse is under that amt though. Shoes are more expensive

LOL, I thank all the lucky stars in heaven that I married cflutist after reading this!!!!  

Probably the most expensive thing we'll spend money on is the nice dinner...we've probably had a few on our anniversaries, b-days, etc that were about $150. For everything else on the list, inclusive, $100-200 would probably cover it....in total for the past 5 years at least! Probably for both her and for me!!!!

I guess we just don't spend money on those things......

But throw Vacations on the list and we're talking a whole different story!

Jaysonsmom, go for the Sevens.  They are flattering on every size butt.  I happen to spend a lot on jeans because I wear them all the time.  I justify the cost by using my method of "per wear".  For the number of times I wear the jeans, I can easily make them seem worth the price I pay!  PER WEAR--I live by it!!!!
