Ok, this might be a goofy question, but I'm curious. My first engagement ring was a 1.19 ideal cut RB solitaire. I don't know the exact specs cause I had to give it back when I called off the engagement! However, I looked online and saw that approximate specs would be about 6.8 x 6.8 x 4. 2. For my next engagement I'd like to get a princess cut solitaire. When I looked up the approximate specs for a 1.75 carat princess cut solitaire with about a 1.01 length to width ratio, the specs were SMALLER than my 1.19 carat RB!!!! I can't remember the exact specs, but I thought that was really bizarre. I know princess cuts generally tend to look a little smaller than RBs, but that's over a half-carat size difference. Why is this???

There was a very good discussion about this recently, maybe someone will be able to find it. Princess cuts are measured flat side to flat side not point to point. rounds will be rounds and will be measured from one side to the other. Point to point a princess cut will measure mm bigger that a rb of the same carat. I will try and find the post
