it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone. |

i would say mercedes or jaguar...esp since those are very popular in other countries and not just the US. maybe BMW. i wouldn't say LV as it's still kind of a niche market...more like Chanel probably. Coco! is Tiffany worldwide or just US? ________________________________ |

What about Cadillac? That's a word that has become a pseudonym for the "best"...e.g., "that's the cadillac of hot water heaters"

With the restriction to "most ladies" it would have to be "Oil of Olay," The largest selling facial cleansing cream in the world - and sold in most of the countries in the world (up until a few years ago Oil of Olay was the larges selling cosmetic line in the world - and they only have one product). Cosmetics by definition are a luxury item. I would like to nominate for honerable mention: Charmin (the bathroom tissue). Now I admit that it is not sold in most countries in the world. But for those Americans and Canadians who think I am kidding - just travel to most of the rest of the world and find out what is used for toilet tissue in those places... Perry

Hi: In my travels, the most emulated logos I've consistently recognized are the following: 1) Rolex, Swatch 2) Ralph Lauren (Polo) 3) Hermes 4) Gucci 5) Previously, La Coste 6) LV cheers--Sharon "People who possess great qualities, do not need to show off". |

For males and females, I would say Rolex and Mercedes definitely. ALthough most men know what the LV stands for these days!

Its all over but not everywhere...one on St. Thomas (although that is still US), they have a section in Harrods in London, they're also in some department stores in Paris. I'm sure they're other places too, that's what I've seen though. As for most recognized luxury symbol.... I'd have to go with one of the cars, like Mercedez or BMW I know cadillac has become a reference for other things, but I honestly wouldnt know what their symbol looks like.

Dancing Fire: 3M ==> Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing. Of course they have not been in the Mining business for many decades. I admit that I have a geography advantage in knowing that as it is regional knowledge. So what is LV? Asking another question does not answer the question I asked. I find it interesting that you are claiming it as the most recognized, and I don't know it. Perry

Thanks MSB. I'll still stick with Oil of Olay, their worldwide sales proves it in the face of many other (and often cheaper - lower quality) competitors. Of course, there is nothing wrong with the other high quality facial cleansing products - but everyone who uses them knows about Oil of Olay. Perry

IT is very hard for you to be American and understand things outside america. Tiffany is a brand, but not a luxury brand in the sense of Cartier and Harry Winston. Polo is a label. Channel, Armarni and Zegna etc are brands But the clear and way out front leading luxury item is this one, and it does not even need a logo to sustain it: ![]() Garry Holloway FGAA DipDT |

Yes... If I had a dollar for every BMW 3 series I see tooling around here, I could retire. ![]() A lot of "luxury" brands have begun to cater to the masses to make more money. You can lease a BMW 3 series for $299 a month. I call them the "every man" car because "every man (and woman)" that I know who gets a couple of dollars in his/her pocket seems to run out and get one of these cars. I even looked at them recently! It was actually kind of a let down on several levels, but that's another story. ![]() Anyway, I am only speaking form my slice of experience as one person in one part of the country. ![]() _____________________________________________ Don't breed or buy when homeless pets continue to die. |

Ferrari makes more money out of selling merchandice (t-shirts, pens and posters) then they do from selling cars. "Branding" doesn't get any better then that! |
