I have seen a lot of people are asking for opinions on stones. My BF is going to be talking the someone to send the diamond next week and I wanted to ask you what you think about it.... Here are the specs: F/VS 2 1.23 Princess Cut Depth: 71.7% Table: 70% Polish: Ex Sym: VG No Fluorescence Girdle: M/Slightly thick 5.87x5.83 (did not get the last dimension) Looks very good under ideal scope or brillance scope. Very bright. My concern is that I went to a jeweler to try on settings and this particular jeweler mentioned with the dimensions of the diamond it will look like a 1 carat diamond. Please ease my concern. Will this diamond look nice and "POP" in the setting. I am thinking of the Royal X Vatche setting to give it a higher setting from the regular Vatche X Prong setting. Thanks for your opinions. |

the royal crown setting is for rounds. you would have to go with the x-prong for a princess.

Make size you least important consideration and focus on quality, especially light return. Nineteen out of every twenty diamonds are poorly cut because the masses make size a priority at the sacrifice of beauty. If your diamond really performs in brilliance, fire and scintillation, is eye clean and has a color acceptable to you, you will never tire of looking at it and others will notice and comment on your stone. This stone is virtually certain to be eye clean and is near the top of the color range. If you are new to looking at diamonds, look at the stone with a loupe to locate the inclusions and then see if you can see them without magnification. If possible, post an Idealscope image for comment just to be sure about light return before you commit yourselves. You should also check out princess cuts from Infinity Diamonds before you decide. Some very beautiful images of their princess cut diamonds have been posted recently. Beauty is in the cut of the holder! |

Thank you for your reply. Vatche makes a Royal setting for princess called Royal X. I have seen the Royal Crown for the round, but was told I could get for the princess diamond.

Carrot, Thank you so much for the information. The diamond he will be getting definitely fits in the criteria I am looking for as far as color and clarity. From what I am told, it is a very brillant stone. So basically, you are saying, if I am happy with the color and clarity - that is all that should be important because everyone will comment on the ring. Don't worry too much on the dimensions of the stone. Thank you so much. That makes me feel better. I was starting to wonder since some stones I saw were closer to a 6x6 and mine was a little less.

If I have communicated that proportions and dimensions aren't important, I apologize. They are extremely important because they determine the light return characteristics of a diamond. A diamond without good light return is dead, lifeless - no matter how big it is. Here's another very complicating fact. Almost any diamond will look good to someone who has not yet learned very much about diamonds - if you're looking at it by itself. But when you eventually see what a well cut diamond looks like, you might be in for a very big disappointment. The differences between cut quality of diamonds is huge. The diamond you are looking at might be very nice. But you would be wise to make sure before you buy. Don't be in hurry to buy and don't let someone convince you that "this" is the last great opportunity you will see for a long while! An Idealscope image posted on this forum will give many people an opportunity to comment on it's brilliance which can be evaluated objectively from the image. You personally can easily learn how to evaluate the image as well. Another very helpful report is a GemEx Light Performance report. If they both indicate the stone performs, you can feel pretty confident. Frankly, I would consider reviewing both of these essential before I would buy a diamond. They will give valuable, objective, understandable information to a person who doesn't know the first thing about dimensions and proportions. Without meaning to be redundant, I would also do a search of these forums for recent images of Infinity Diamond princess cuts. Beauty is in the cut of the holder! |

I have been reading and reading and reading. I feel like some of these newbies... overwhelmed. First you think you find a good one and someone tells you something so you second guess yourself. We definitely will look at the stone and see how it is. I just requested pictures of the stone with the ideal scope and crown and pavillion %. I think I understood you, but wrote it wrong. The dimensions I was referring to was the length and width of the stone. I have read enough to know I do not want depth/table to be more than 74% and the smaller the % (closer to upper 60's is better). From the numbers you see, does this seem like a good stone? Thank you so much.

Good luck and trust your eyes. There are no hard fast rules with Princess cuts which makes them even harder. There are guidelines yes, but still they can be difficult to judge.
