I think this jeweler is a dreadful boor and an embarrassment to the profession. NEVER is this appropriate behavior.

Thank you for your input! She just made me feel like an idiot. Like my diamond was a second class piece of cut glass. She was more than happy to take it as a trade though. I guess when it comes down to it.....my husband bought it for me and there isn't anything that could make me give it up.

karen when you say you can see it in dim light almost like it's glowing...it seems from the specs you gave that it may be a slightly more white 'brilliant' cut with the high table and lower depth combo, my old BIC stone used to be very bright in dim light, like a whitish bright glow...

funny about the depth being too deep, that depth is actually a number i prefer when looking for stones. i prefer a smaller table, more around 55 or 56, but it's just my preference....having had my old stone with a larger table and smaller depth. however, some experts like DBL swear by a 60/60 cut with good angles. frpm what you have said, i'm sure your diamond looks better than what this gal was trying to show you if she thinks 60.5 is TOO DEEP!

karen, a modified round brilliant...interesting! is it branded like an eighternity or another extra-faceted diamond? it may say on the GIA cert if there is an inscription on the girdle. also if it's a branded MRB then it should have something listed on the GIA cert? if it's a modified round, quite possible the jeweler may not have even have known exactly what she was looking at!!

the important thing is that you adore it and it sounds like you do. it's fun to go into jewelers sometimes and see what they do or don't know..maybe the next jeweler you visit will recognize a 'gem' when they see one!

I am not sure what an eighternity is? I know that my diamond has 8 extra facets on the lower half of the stone. The sad part about this jeweler is that they are an AGS jeweler. I found them by looking at the AGS web site.
