OK, I know I'm obsessing, but it IS my baby!! I have suspisions that my diamond was burned & my jeweler did repolish it. He said it is beautiful & looks good as new. What if his polisher removed the laser inscription from the IGI? Is it a bid deal? What about my insurance agent? Do I need to tell them that the diamond is no longer marked? Ughhhhhhh!!

Leanne, Relax! You or your jeweler can easily have something written on the girdle if you choose. In most cases there is no reason for the cutter to polish off the number so it probably will still be there. If the weight changed, then the lab report is no longer valid but if you count the IGI examination as important, the jeweler can resubmit the stone for a new report. They are reasonably fast and the jeweler will probably pick up the bill. The jeweler should pay for or provide accurate documentation for your insurance policy about the final stone. Clarity enhanced diamonds are easy to detect, damaged or not. Get it appraised by a competent gemologist and they will have little trouble answering your questions about whether the stone has this treatment. If it was formerly enhanced and the treatment was removed, it will be visibly quite different. This is the reason they call it 'enhancement'. Neil is referring to my post about my jeweler doing something to make my 1.82 diamond turn white. The jeweler told me he believed it happened because he wasn't told that my diamond was clarity enhanced & while sizing the heat made my diamond turn white. I have an IGI cert that doesn't state that the diamond was enhanced so I need to take it in for an appraisal to get to the bottom of this.
