HI EVERYONE! DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN THE PRICE OF DIAMONDS SINCE NOVEMBER 2004?  WE HAD LOOKED AT A 1.7 EMERALD CUT AND IT WAS $8200.  NOW WE ARE BEING TOLD THAT WE CAN GET A 1.07 FOR THAT PRICE!  I DON'T THINK THE SPECS ON THE DIAMONDS ARE THAT MUCH DIFFERENT EXCEPT FOR COLOR, ONE WAS AN H AND THE OTHER AN E.  I THINK THAT THIS MIGHT BE THE REASON.  EXCUSE ME IF I SOUND IGNORANT BUT THIS IS ALL NEW TO ME AND I TRY TO JUST READ ALL OF YOUR POSTS TO LEARN.  SO IF ANYONE HAS SEEN AN UPWARD TREND IN THE DIAMOND INDUSTRY LET ME KNOW.
THANKS A BUNCH

Stones over 1.50 carats are in "shrinking" supply.  There was an increase from the sight held by DeBeers.
So was there a price increase, yes, however, even though stones stones are cut yet, dealers, cutters, and sellers are preparing with increased prices, as the replacement inventory will be costing them more.

Additionally, the price between an H color and an E color is SIGNIFICANT.

I SEE, SO AM I CORRECT IN FIGURING THAT AN EMERALD CUT STONE WITH THE RANGE OF 1.7 TO 1.8, COLOR OF G-H. CLARITY NO LOWER THAN SI1 AND A RATIO OF ABOUT 1.4-1.5 AND A VERY GOOD CUT SHOULD RANGE ABOUT 10,000 TO 13,000 DEPENDING ON THE PERCENTAGE OF DEPTH AND TABLE?
BY THE WAY THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE.
