My e-ring was my great grandmother's and while I love it I am thinking about having the stone reset into a halo setting. I would like to have a pearl if possible set into the old setting. Is this doable? The setting is an antique fishtail (four larger prongs with a smaller prong on each side of the large prongs). This picture isn't very clear. If a pearl isn't possible I will probably go with a semi-precious stone instead.

Well, why not, really. The prongs will not be holding the pearl (most likely) - it will probably be set on a peg as usual (somehow) and the prongs could be bent around it as if. The whole thing sounds a bit unusual, but I am pretty sure than a search for "pearl in prongs" will prove me wrong as fast as one can say "Google" ! ![]() Nice ring, btw ![]() Btw. I am no expert. It could be that the setting is completely unfit for the above opperation. This, only your jeweler can decide with the ring in hand to evaluate.
