I was driving down from New Jersey to Alabama and had gotten as far as Pennsylvania when I had a wee spot of trouble which could have been a lot worse. An 18 wheeler lost two of his front wheels and they went flying off into traffic, and me. One hit me and I went over it. I lost control of the car for just a few seconds and then pulled over. I wont bore you with the other details but I was told by another truck driver who had stopped to help and the police officer that if I had been in a car I would have been dead. Always good to hear.
Now why am I now 1000% in love with my car? When I lost control it was because my front in was pushed up by the force of the big tire hitting it and then running over it. However all the damage to the car is minor, my CD player stong working the paint is messed up where the tire hit and my rims on that side look bad but everything else is fine. The police officer was really impressed by how well my car held up.
Luckily there was a Lexus dealership just down the road. When I got there I was still shaken up. They let Ava inside with me checked everything to make sure it was safe to keep driving to AL washed my car did a touch up of the paint and sent me on my way. They did this all very nicely and didn’t charge me a penny. Bummer that my CD player will have to be replaced and my rims and the paint stuff. But they were incredibly nice to me. I have an appointment to get my car fixed now that I am back in Alabama but I still just so glad I have such a safe car. If anyone is looking for a midsize SUV I would highly recommend the Lexus RX330 I loved it before but now I love it even more.

How scary that must have been for you.
You poor thing.
I'm also thankful for your safe car.

I too have a RX330, and love every minute of driving it. I really love having all the airbags. Did your airbags deploy? and if they did was it just the side that was impacted or all of them? I am glad that you are ok!

I'm so glad you are okay Matatora.  I hate driving around those 18-wheeler trucks.  I always have a fear of being run over.

I too have a Lexus RX but it's the 300 (older version of your 330).  It's a model year 2000, and I would not trade it for the world!  Although I've never had an accident with it, it has been the most reliable, most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned.  I have not had a single problem with it ever!  The customer service at all the Lexus dealerships is oustanding.  When I need my routine service, I get a loaner for the day (also a Lexus of my choice), and if I'm too busy to drive my RX to the shop, they'll come and get it and bring it back to me!  I'm sure my next vehicle will also be a Lexus.

Dancing Fire, as far as the price on a Lexus, consider purchasing one of their loaners.  Technically they are used, so they are sold at a huge discount.  They are in mint condition and have the same warranty.  I got mine for the same price of a new Ford Explorer or Toyota Highlander.  It still smelled new, and it looked as if no one had ever sat in the back seat.  I could not pass it up, and I'm glad I didn't.

Thank goodness you & Ava are OKAY!

And that's why people buy Lexus--the service and quality. I'm glad both were there for you when you needed them!

Thanks everyone...and yes both Ava and I are okay. I took her to the vet just to be sure, Ava is my baby after all. Luckily none of my air bags deployed they have these neat sensors that let the car know where it was being hit so they stayed closed. The worst part of it was the shock and now the odd bruises across my torso from the seat belt, though better bruised then to go through the windsheild. I have to say I orignally boughtmy car beucase wind noise really bothers (makes my ears pop) and this is the SUV you want for quiet, now I am glad that it is so safe. Lexus has a life long customer in me.

As for the price I did the negotiating on this one I called on 12/30/04 to buy the 2005 model becuase I wanted a nav system AWD and all that good stuff I was more likely to find AWD in NJ so I bought it while home seeing my parents. I was able to pay just about 10,000 less then the sticker price. I called told them what I wanted and asked if they had one in stock, they did and I said how much I was willing to pay. About half an hour later they called me back and said yes. My daddy told me that going in makes harder to walk away from the car you want, and they can see you fidegt if you go in. Plus if you call they dont know if they are the only ones who you have called. It kinda reverse the pressure tactics car dealers use. I just love my RX it wonderful.

I also have the RX330. Just shows that it's getting too ppular for me taste! I should have gotten the Acura
MDX like my hubby told me to I have to say that I love the car though, it drives lke butter, so smooth, and sound-proof!

I coccur with the excellent Lexus Service though. Both times when I took my car in for routine service, I was in and outta there with minimal pain. the staff were to helpful, in fact, my Lexus dealership has a curved entry like a luxury hotel. I pull up to the curve, and within a couple minutes, they'e whisked my cara away, and a loaner (in the same model) is driven up. They also helped me remove 2 carseats, and install the 2 carseats into the loaner both times!!

I too negotiated the price of my RX over the phone, told them what I wanted to pay and if they could not accept it then I'll move on. My sales guy (who was the greatest!) called me back in 15 minutes and asked me when I was coming in...went in that day and bought the car!

ME TOO! I negotiated with 7 dealers, one dealer told me a price I could resist plus they had the color I wanted with the interior I wanted, so I went in the following day and bought it without even driving the actual car.

That's terrifying....glad you and Ava are ok!!

My mom also drives an Lexus SUV and since she drives back and forth between CA and NM several times a year, I feel much more comfortable knowing she is safer in an accident!

What a relief!

OMG!  I am so glad that you are ok!!!

I don't own a Lexus, but I love them!   It's great to hear such positive buzz about a vehicle.  It seems like more often than not, I only hear about the negative qualities of vehicles or companies.

I'm glad you are okay!  I have a 2003 RX300 and love it.  The service has been great (almost 45,000 miles).  While I can't recommend the service for a BMW, they are great if you have an accident...my last car was a 323 and it was totaled, but I didn't have any injuries at all.

LOL, my husband wanted ME to get the Acura MDX as well, but since it was MY car, I liked the more-car-like ride (quieter and smoother) of the Lexus.  Besides, Mr. DiamondLil drives an Acura RL, and the service department at our Acura dealership could take some serious lessons in service and courtesy from Lexus.

I feel like such a jerk, I seriously just skimmed over the whole thread, and didn't read anything in depth....I thought it was a minor fender-bender. I'm so sorry you had such a SCARY incident. I'm glad to hear that you and Ava were unhurt. That is one os my worst nightmares....getting into a car accident with my kids on board.

Although I would have loved the extra 3rd row seat in the Acura MDX, I wouldn't have been able to live without the automatic liftgate that my Lexus has. Also, the spare tire inthe Acura MDX is not a full size spare, and it's attached UNDER the car...which meant if I got a flat, I'm have to get on my back, and remove it from underneath..... No thanks!

Whoa Matatora, I'm so glad that you and Ava were alright.  This was a scary post to read.  I'm glad that the damage was only minor given what happened.  It's good to know about the RX330- I've been thinking about getting this car soon.  I have to get rid of my Acura TL type S to get me a safe bigger mommy car as I'll be expecting my first baby this Nov..
I've never been disappointed with Lexus' service in the past.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts ya'll. As for the Acura MDX that is what my mother drives and she like it for the most part though the new nav cd is not as good as the old on and our street is no longer there. I didnt get the MDX becuase I am short while sitting and I couldnt see out the back window. It is a nice car adn well laid out but I love the little details of my Lexus, the sliding center station, the way the shifter is at an angle so dust and crubs dont get caught in it. Little things make a good car a great one. I think the RX 330 is great.

I think we all spend our money where it suits us best. I drive from NJ, NY to Alabama several times a year so a quiet smooth car is something I really enjoy. But I definately think people should spend their money however makes them happiest. Want to post some links to your bling as you put it?

I absolutely agree, we all have our priorities on where we want to spend our money. I drive about 20 miles a day, to work and back, I don't need a fancy car. If I were doing a huge amount of driving (like from NJ to AL) then I would want a better, great to drive car. I also did not post that I am sorry that you were in an accident, and I am very glad that you and your dog were not hurt. Who can say what would have happened if you had not had a great SUV?

I wish you well,

Bridget
