Each appraiser is slightly different in the services they offer and the prices charged.  Most will have a page on their websites that outline their particular pricing structure.  It ranges from about $75 to $200 depending on who you use, what your requirements are and what shipping details are involved.

Hi countingdown -

Just as a FYI, I sent my engagement ring to an appraiser even after Whiteflash gave me their independent appraiser's assessment. The cost to me was $150 in NJ. The appraiser was purely an appraiser; he was not associated with any jewelry vendors. It took about an hour for him to inspect the diamond (color, clarity, measurements, symmetry, polish, depth and angle). I purposely did NOT tell him it was certifiied until he was close to being finished at which point I mentioned that it was GIA certified. He then compared his inspection to the cert. He was pretty close to the cert on all aspects. The 'scary' thing (in a good sense)was that his appraised cost of the engagement ring was only $80 different than the one Whiteflash had sent me from their outside appraiser.

I paid $150 for peace of mind, knowing that the diamond belonged to the cert.

Good luck!

I went to get my E-ring  to appraised for insurance  by independent appraiser's  in the last month
it was $250.

she is really good appraiser but
what made me little up set is the appraiser has rule that if cliant dose cancel the appointment
she would charge the fee because the time loss she would take another cliant.
 it's ok with me

however
***but she called me and canceled my appointment  before 2.5 hour the appointment time****

well it's takes about least 2 hour drive from my house and my husband already left work the day
we  got phone from her just before leave the house.

and my husband hour pay is 3 times more than her fee.

well I wrote my personal story...sorry I still bit up set about it.

I called many independent appraiser around northan california . avarage is $180- $250
( some place told me $125 for 1 hour )
good luck to find good appraiser.

The rate sheet Mrs S. links to shows the pricing for just one component of the four part report I've developed for internet clients. That report I call the CDA (Comprehensive Diamond Analysis), and costs $165 up to 2 carats and then $25 per carat additional above that weight.

The four reports included in the CDA are:

1. Comprehensive Appraisal Report
2. Optical Analysis Report
3. Clarity Photo Report
4. Critique/Consultation

I just got my appraisal back from Richard today, and it was the best $165 I could have spent.  Very thorough analysis and I am very impressed by the quality of the reports.  He worked with the set piece so that didn't need to go through the hassle of buying the diamond shipping it to him, getting it set shippiing back to him etc...   Of course if you have to do the appraisal remotely keep in mind that you are going to need to pay for shipping there and back.
