I am considering purchasing a lazard kaplan diamond from a B&M in town. Here are the specs:

2.057 carat
AGS 000
Color: H
Clarity: VS2
Table: 55%
Depth: 61.6%
Crown Angle: 34.6
Pavilion Angle: 41.1

It doesn't seem to score the highest on the HCA, but seeing it in person the diamond looked great (although I have not been able to compare vs lower HCA score side by side (I viewed several Ideal cuts and i may have but didn't know it). Its offered @ 26k and seemed somewhat reasonable vs other branded diamonds I have seen and even those on-line for this carat/cut. I just wanted to know what the forums thoughts were regarding this diamond. Thanks!

Oh well... how about 21k ?  (link to 2ct H/VS2 H&A)

That one comes with a GIA cert. Optical symmetry looks appealing versus the AGS paper but if this does not hold true for you, here's one 2.17 H/VS2 AGS0cut @ 20k (link).

I can't be sure these are the best prices anywhere, but they do seem attractive versus the brand's premium.

Are LK rounds H&A ?  It is hard to believe it would be a real horror because of the slightly off HCA though. If you like it and those 5k difference are no issue, than... why not.

it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone.

Matt,

Saw your other post, too.  Though you're getting some good advice, generally, it seems to me, on alternatives to explore, I (and they) are probably sympathetic about buying locally.  Still, where you saw yourself...

It doesn't seem to score the highest on the HCA, but seeing it in person the diamond looked great (although I have not been able to compare vs lower HCA score side by side (I viewed several Ideal cuts and i may have but didn't know it). "somewhat" reasonable may be true....but...for any amount of money, let alone the amount you're considering spending, I'd say...unless you're in a time crunch....consider that you have lots of options (your other post seems to reference some as well) and so, you might seek to get a match on good quality from more than one source.  Used to be, Lazare Kaplan was the cats meow.  I'm sure they're still respected, (and although I don't hear about them much here may not say too much) but I think I'd want to confirm on at least a couple of parameters, in making a purchase like this.

Best,

Ira (Ruffles have Ridges) Z.

Sounds reasonable.  You are paying a bit of a premium for the LK.  Some believe there is value in the name.  Good luck!

I looked at quite a few LK diamonds and I thought they were gorgeous.

Not all LK diamonds are H&A, BTW. Those that are not are still quite lovely.

I was not keen on getting a brand-name diamond because I wanted to get more carat weight for the price-- but if you are looking for a LK diamond, I think the price is reasonable. The pricing seems close to what I saw at a very reputable B&M dealer here in Atlanta. And BTW, the Hearts on Fire brand I saw at Jared was 2.03ct, H. SI1 and $33K! It did have H&A symmetry but to the eyes was no more beautiful to me than the LK diamonds (or my own ideal cut non-branded for that matter).

GL!

Thanks for showing the other alternatives. And to anwser valeria LK is not H&A. I understand I am paying a slight premium for buying at a B&M and the LK name, but as u said Ira I am too a little sympathetic about buying locally. I have considered several online options from superbert, uniondiamond, etc. They all look excellent on paper, and i am sure in person as well. U also bring up a good point of getting the diamond chked elsewhere before purchasing. I am in a time crunch as I sat looking for diamonds a little too long as memorial weekend approached (the weekend I am suprising my girlfriend). When I looked at the LK diamond I did make an offer closer to where the online offers were (albiet a slight premeium as I knew there would be a premieum for the brand.) I have also considered Tiffanys, however I was quoted a 1.56 carat G VS1 for ~25k and thought that was astronomical even for the name. On the LK diamond I mentioned where is it possible to get it "scoped" out in terms of ideal scope/ brillance scope.
