Do any of you have someone that you try to keep up with when it comes to your diamonds? I don't, really, unless you count my mom! She has some amazing diamond jewelry! She has amazing jewelry, period! Most of her rings are multi diamond band rings and clusters, but they are showstoppers! People stop her and admire her rings all the time. My mom likes rings that she calls "a finger full", and I am the opposite, I like rings that are more tailored and delicate. But her latest coup...WOW! I love it! I'm trying to convince her to let me take a picture of it to post here. It's a white gold tiffany lucida style ring with a center stone of over one carat. It is sooooooo pretty! It's just my kind of ring. It looks gorgeous on her finger (didn't look bad on mine, either, at least for the two seconds she let me try it on... ).My mom keeps telling me that I'm going to inherit half of these rings when she's gone (I have a sister, dang it). But sometimes, if I'm really really good...she lets me borrow. I hope that someday I have half the jewelry collection my mom does (without having to inherit hers, that is!). I have a looooooong way to go!

Nope, and with the problems I have no, nor should I. I know several of my friends are decked out in rings, etc, but I can't do much with anything other than earrings, my E-ring and wedding band, and a necklace which I cant tolerate longer than about 2 hours. Not necessarily because its a nuisance but also because I get kinda "trapped feeling". Im insane.

My mother has a 4tcw (2 ct center). when I tried it on I sort of felt that, but I dont feel that way about my e-ring. That sounds really interesting please expand.

She has some amazing diamond jewelry! She has amazing jewelry, period! Most of her rings are multi diamond band rings and clusters, but they are showstoppers! People stop her and admire her rings all the time. I normally don't either, unless you count my mom and sister. My mother has this gorgeous princess cut wedding ring with side step-down smaller princess stones in 14K YG. I've always had my eye on it. Then, my sister got engaged with a platimun ring with an EC center stone with side stones (trillants?). Her wedding bend was a channel-set eternity band. I began to see the funniest thing! Suddenly my mom wanted an eternity band as well!! I began to watch my mom eyeing her ring and asking my dad for an eternity band...and of course she got one (my dad doesn't deny my mother anything)... So my mom and sister has this finger full of diamonds and I was "left behind" with my 1/3 carat Marquise. I think it was at this point that DH decided to get serious and began to save up for my new upgrade. When my mom and sister saw my upgraded EC w-set (now 2.26 TCW), I caught my mom staring at my ring all night!! It was such a strange feeling that they were looking at MY rings rather than comparing amongst their own!! LOL

Date: 5/20/2005 4:50:24 PM Yes. I have some major claustrophobic things going on. I got trapped at a very young age in a car that was mangled and since then I have really had issues. I have issues in any room/vehicle/etc that I don't have total control over. Elevators are bad, planes really bad....and if you think Im gonna get in a submarine you are insane. Being wrapped in blankets, wearing necklaces, turtlenecks...really make me feel closed in. I start to sweat, then shake...then freak out completely.Author: kaleigh Kittykat, I think ame was talking about her necklace. My mom is the same way. From the same event.

It can be so hard, whether diamonds or anything else (house, cars, etc.) to fall into the "keep up with the Jones" trap, but I finally realized in life that there will always be someone with better or bigger stuff, who is prettier or thinner or has a bigger title, whatever, and I have to just enjoy what I have, no matter what it is. It took a while growing up and getting to this secure place, believe me, but it feels so good. A quick way to check yourself if you feel a "spiral" coming is to think of the many, many people who have less that you....I know that, for me, this whips me into shape right quick.

Date: 5/22/2005 12:01:51 AM I learned this the hard way. I obsessed because all of my sils had larger erings than mine and I used to feel if mine was larger, then "I would be happy". When I recieved my big upgrade, I discovered that it didn't make my life complete and that I had been acting like a brat to my husband for nothing.Author: Jennifer5973 It can be so hard, whether diamonds or anything else (house, cars, etc.) to fall into the 'keep up with the Jones' trap, but I finally realized in life that there will always be someone with better or bigger stuff, who is prettier or thinner or has a bigger title, whatever, and I have to just enjoy what I have, no matter what it is. I think that people try to fill their viods with material things convinced that this time they will be happy. I have been doing this for a long time. Now that I realize what I am doing, I no longer have such an intense desire to keep up with everyone else Don't get me wrong, I love my new ring . But I think I realizednow at 26, that there are more important things out there in the world than bigger diamonds(cars, homes, etc...) IMO.

no, i dont have anyone i try to keep up with re: jewelry...or anything else i guess. not that anyone around me has alot of jewelry really. we tend to do what makes us happy...not falling into the 'norm' of what others do...i buy jewelry because i love it rather than for anyone else to look at it. i probably enjoy my jewelry items more than anyone else...so i tend to buy for myself and what pleases me rather than what others have. plus if someone else has something cool, then i can just borrow theirs!

I never felt the need to keep up. I always wanted something a little bigger than my original diamond, just because I just really wanted about a carat. No reason other than that's what I wanted. My DH was pretty poor when we got married and buying a house and starting a family were much more important to us. It was only after about 11 or 12 years that we started seriously talking about it. I don't think I'll ever want anything bigger. My mom has always worn her round diamond in solitaire setting with plain 3mm white gold band. She's never wanted anything bigger or fancier. My sister is the same way. I only have one friend that gives a hoot about diamonds. She has a very pretty 1 carat round with baguettes on the sides and wears matching baguette wedding rings on either side. She's always said she wanted a 2 carat center but likes the setting and bands. She seemed a little envious of my upgrade, but she's always wanted something bigger too and was talking about it long before my upgrade. My other close friends' diamonds are probably all around a half carat or so, and they don't seem to be interested in upgrading. One friend has been married for 10 years with a plain wedding band and now she's thinking she wants an engagement ring since I got my diamond upgrade. She's not into my style at all though, she wants an emerald cut diamond. Still, it's not a high priority on her list as she only mentions it occasionally.

I have another set of friends who are totally obssessed with diamonds, and sport 1.8-4.0ct, and that's all they talk about....recent ring upgrades, new diamond studs etc etc. I can't "keep up with the Jones" so I'ce drifted away from this group by natural selection. |
