At work today she lost her diamond from her e-ring. My parents have been married 29 years.. The stone had fallen out and broken once before, but she found it and had it recut. She can't even get the ring off her finger so she hadnt had it inspected or anything in at least 10 years.. But the diamond is lost now.. She doesn't have it insured.. and she is on her way to the jewler right now to have the ring cut off her finger. So her e-rng is pretty much a total loss. I feel so bad for her. But I hope my daddy is a good hubby and buys her a bigger better ring! Hes not very romantic/sensitive though.. so he may not.

I am so sorry to hear of your mothers loss. Perhaps if he doesnt want to get her a new ring he might get her a super fabulous eternity band? Still what a bummer.

Oh no you poor mom that is just awful. My SIL recently lost her stone out her setting. It was an OEC and was lost when she was on the beach. I just helped her replace it, but it wasn't easy as OEC's are very hard to find. I hope your dad gets her a new one. So sad.

It was just a basic 6 prong solitaire.. Tiffany style setting.. But wearing a ring non-stop for 30 years without having the prongs checked... i guess its not that suprising

i am so sorry that your mum lost her diamond, melissa. you know, my 1st e -ring was lost also. it was stolen. my fiance and i was so sad, it felt like someone in our family just died. the feeling was beyond description. i cannot bring myself back to the day, when i opened my little red square box, it was empty. i had no idea who took it. it was a beautiful F, 1.17, RB. i still look at the GIA cert once a while and wish i could find it one day, hoping that i had misplaced it. but i dont think so. but however, my fiance (now husband) did buy me a 2nd e ring. so now i have one, almost identical. of course the sentimental side of it is somewhat different, but it's definately replaceable. so i am sure your mum will be ok, once she gets her new ring, soon. :)

Oh MS, that is devastating....Your poor mom!!!And my mom is just like yours, she's been wearing the same ring for over 30 years (she got this diamond as her 5-year upgrade) and I highly doubt that it's insured....and I'm sure her prongs haven't been checked in forever either. (Also Tiff style 6-prong.) This could happen to anyone like this, and I'm SO sorry it happened to your mom--how traumatic! And to get it cut off too!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe you can give your dad a little nudge in the right direction?

MS, Why not help your dad buy a replacement stone from one of the many PS vendors. You can help him save a lot of money and we are here to help in any way!!

Date: 5/18/2005 3:27:55 PM We recently had a similar situation with my mother's engagement ring. She got in in 1960 and only took it off to have it sized up a little bit about 15 years ago. Occasionally I'd make her take it off for me to clean (she used to let it get nasty and I have an ultrasonic cleaner in my office). A few weeks ago I looked at it and noticed that where she'd had it sized the metal was so thin that the ring was literally in 2 pieces. I could grab them and move them back and forth. The wedding band had severly worn the engagement ring at the base of the prong head. It was just in BAD shape. I convinced her to let me take it to my jeweler to be reset into a new solitaire mounting. Try as I might I couldn't convice her to take her pair of .50 tcw earrings and make a goregous 3 stoner. (she doesn't share my diamond enthusiasm, but she did give ME the earrings for my ring TeeHee)Author: MelissaSue It was just a basic 6 prong solitaire.. Tiffany style setting.. But wearing a ring non-stop for 30 years without having the prongs checked... i guess its not that suprising ![]() My jeweler told me that I'd gotten it there just in time. I didn't notice but he showed me where 4 of the 6 prong tips were broken and the diamond was loose. She's lucky she didn't lose it, and it's not insured. We ordered her as close a match as possible to her original setting and while he had the diamond out of the mounting he weighed and measured it for her and gave his opinion on color and inclusion as I SI1, .78 point RB. Now she has a brand new 6 prong white gold tiffany mounting and I'm guessing her diamond is safe for another 45 years!! She said she feels like a new bride again whe she looks at it! Lesson, take that ring off every now and then to be checked!!

I'm so sorry to hear about it. I know I would be devastated if I lost mine. Maybe your father could buy your mother a new ring for their upcoming 30th anniversary. This way, instead of it being a replacement, it could be a new gift to represent their next 30 years together. _______________________ |
