my recycling project!!!  I have a nice five stone diamond band that is by Gemlock.  The stones are 25 points each and I would like to make a necklace with these stones.  Kinda like the diamond by the yard look but with a twist.  I want it to be interesting.  If you guys could help me with pics I'd be thrilled.  I am running out to do errands and hope to see lots of great ideas when I get back.  Jennifer gave me this idea and I think it could be really pretty.  The stones are E-F VVs. Thanks!!!

A length of diamonds would be wonderful, of course.

An older version of Tiffany's necklace has a centerpiece - a colored cab or faceted stone slightly larger than the diamond drops. BN came up with a twist of that by using yellow diamonds instead.
Since you already have 5 stones, perhaps a halo could set the central one apart...

What about something like this? (Try to ignore the fact that it looks like something in a chemical equation)

I like that Matata!!  But was thinking more like a choker with an interesting chain and the stones would be in some kind of a bezel setting??  I would like it to rest in the hollow of my neck, so probably 15 1/2 inch chain.

Pics are proving hard to find.  There's the tennis bracelet idea -- something similar to this but with only 5 stones.

Then there's the kitty-wonky Tiffany sideways look.

This one is a single stone but you can have your stones aligned on a thicker chain for the choker look.

Matata,
That's great!!!  Now I was thinking of some kind of antique looking chain??  I can't describe it, but it kind of twists before and after the bezel set diamonds??

Matata, I am intrigued by the horizontal bubble pendant? Can you fill me in on that? I have never seen it like that and now the wheels are turnin'. (Thanks A LOT, Kaleigh)

I agree.  I am going to see my jeweler tomorrow and will discuss it with him.  Kind of like the Ritani look and the diamonds will be an inch appart, with an interesting white gold chain.  Sounds like a plan.  If anyone comes up with any more pictures I'd greatly appreciate it.

Oooooh, Kaleigh!  I just love it when someone ELSE is getting into trouble with "projects"!

The only concern I'd have about doing halos around the stones would be that it would make the necklace "blingier" than intended...if you know what I mean...

If it were me,  I'd probably want to get a few more  25 pointers so that the diamonds go farther around the neck,  and maybe have them "collet" set (spectacle set?) (you see this often on antique long chains) so that if the necklace flips,  it still looks OK.

Just a thought...(Leave it to me to suggest that you go out and buy more diamonds!)

Widget,
As always you're right on the money.  I am aware of diamonds set like that can flip and that is just one of my biggest pet peeves in jewelry!!!  I want it to stay put and not have to worry about it flipping when I wear it.  Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know.  Oh and a big OH I bought a digital camera today!!!  Can you believe it???  Watch out I may just post more jewerly pics than you may want to see, haha.

Congratulations on the digital camera!  You're going to have SO MUCH FUN!!!  Your first assignment is to post more pictures of your incredible Ering,  and then (I can hardly wait)  that magnificent antique ring of your Grandmothers!!

I'm still obsessing about your necklace project...I was going to add that a fine, delicate chain would help emphasize the diamonds,  but  maybe then the necklace wouldn't hang neatly because it's too light weight...hmm...what to do.  Maybe having the chain in platinum would help...

I'm SO good at helping others spend money!!

Sevens is coming for a visit tomorrow, so hopefully we can complete this assignment, haha.  I think platinum would be great, any money you can lend me???  Seriously, I know what I want and just can't articulate it well enough.  I have designed many pieces so this should be a walk in the park.  Just want the right chain, not something ordinary.  I'll keep you posted.

Valeria,
Ding Ding Ding , that's it!!!!!!  I love how the center stone is different from  the rest, highlighted so to speak.  Question, would a chain other than your classic cable be too much??

Hi Kaleigh

I like the diamonds by the yard collection but same as you, I will be concerned about the stones flipping. Why not go for a WG thin chain similar to the diamonds by the yard but have the stones bezel set individually hanging down from the chain, they can be set an inch or 1.5 inches apart. This way the stones will not slip. I love this look and hope you can understand my discription. Anyway, to give you an idea of what bezel and the chain that I like, please see my recent recycling project below:

Too much... Don't think so. I would expect that the extra weight of the center bezel keeps the chain from moving around and the other four diamonds from turning culet up.  As far as I know, spinning is solved by having the connecting chain either stiff (neckwire), or flat (flat omega, so it does not turn) or significantly lighter than the bezels (like that one above).

Unless "antique" is better than retro and you can actually find a necklace/chain with flat elements like this one below:

I have no idea if there is any modern version of that, having one handmade would be quite an adventure.

Adin lists a few types of vintage chain necklaces, among which a double link that would really never spin/turn (link). I hope there is a 3-4mm wide modern version. IMO, it really looks 1000 times more interesting than flat omega chain...

Thanks Kaleigh. I've had that idea for almost a year and finally took the time to do it. I was reluctant in the beginning as 3 of the stones came from a ring that my mom gave me, so there was some sentimental value attached to it. But since I have only worn it for less than 10 times, I decided to maximize its potential. I really love how the earrings turned out and now I can wear the attachments a few times a month. Not only I feel great as the stones are no longer sitting in a dark box, I also love how I don't have to break the bank for this project.

You are making a very smart move and I know you are going to have fun with this new project.

Valeria!!!!!!  I LOVE the necklace you put together for Kaleigh!  Clever clever girl!

Jewels:  What a great idea making those earring jackets with your family diamonds!  Congrats!

Kaleigh:  I spent some time last night  looking for ideas for  chains...didn't come up with anything.  I suspect it will be hard to find something that is "different" and doesn't detract from the diamonds too much....
