France/Germany/Italy sounds like fun.  I went to school in France and traveled quite a bit.  One of my favorite cities is Strausbourg between Germany & France.  Great blend of cultures.

My fiance and I are going the beach bum route.  We're going to Petit St Vincent in the Grenadines.  There are only 22 cottages so it will just me & my sweetie :)  http://psvresort.com/  53 days and counting....

Las Vegas - because neither of us has ever been and would both love to - we don't have the luxury of taking more than a few days off - he's a finance manager with no one to do the job in his absence and I'm the exec assist to the pres and two vps - I think we'd both be sorely missed after five days

We decided to go to St. Thomas, then we were fortunate enough to WIN our plane tickets!

We decided to wait for Italy until next year - we want to really TOUR Italy, but we don't want to do it on our honeymoon, we want to be fat and lazy and relax for that, THEN next year we'll run ragged all over Italy!

***2 one way tickets and a diamond ring, hell it don't matter what the rain might bring...***

Treysar, that's awesome!!  How did you win the tix?

My bf and I have discussed this many times and I always end up w/ a big I don't know.....I would love somewhere in Western Europe with a lot of "culture-y" things to do....but then the Carribean or some place warm would be heaven....but I get REALLY sunburned...  After the tsunami I thought about maybe one of those affected beaches in Thailand which will be repaired but still economically suffering most likely by the time we get around to actually going on a honeymoon!!  (Of course, if it's summer 2006, it willl be HOT!)  Maybe someplace in South America or Austrailia/NZ....never been to the Southern Hemisphere!

My sis/BIL went to Fiji, Tahiti, Bora Bora AND Morrea (3 weeks) and had a great time, but it seemed like too much to me...I'd rather go 1 or 2 places and have time to both soak the place in AND to veg.

Italy would be WONDERFUL!!

So are we!! We're going June 26-July 3. When are you guys going?

Since our cruise ports out of New Orleans two days after the wedding, we're flying to NO the afternoon after the wedding, spending that night and next day in NO, and we're staying in NO for 3 days after the cruise.

We went to Tahiti/Moorea/Bora Bora for two weeks and it was pure heaven!  I really wanted to go to Italy though -- we went for the first time last year and I totally fell in love.  Depending on how much time you have, 3 countries could be a lot to cover.  I would like to spend at least 10 days in Italy to hit all the major cities, esp. since you need to factor in time traveling between the cities.

MS -- Venice is awesome!  So unique and romantic.  We spent 3 days and I wished we'd had more time there.   Haven't been to Rome yet.  I might recommend more time in Paris if you guys like to see the sights -- there's a lot to cover in Paris.  The South of France is beautiful but there's not as much to do, mostly beaches and shopping, so 5 or 6 days instead of 7 isn't too much of a loss.  Can't go wrong whichever way you choose, though!

i had really wanted to go to Italy, but it's a trip that I don't think i can swing during med school.  at least not the way i want to do it!  so, i think we're going to do something carribbean for our honeymoon.  then the following year i'll graduate from med school and have a month off before i start my residency.  so hopefully moving won't be a huge issue, and we can go to italy for a few weeks.  i have family there and i would love to spend a decent amount of time with them, in addition to wandering about

We're going to Brazil, wanted to go someplace where neither one of us has been before and for fi there aren't many left.  So we're spending a few days in Rio and around and then flying north and staying in various small beach towns.  It's less than 3 weeks away, I can't wait!

We leave July 4th at the buttcrack of dawn to fly to Waikiki, staying in the Royal Hawaiian in a deluxe Oceanfront with possibility of upgrade to the big honkin suite through July 7th (thurs) On July 6th we are taking a day trip to the Big Island for a full day Volcano adventure then going back to Oahu for a last night in that hotel. Then we fly to Maui to stay at the Sheraton Maui in Kaanapali Beach, leaving the Islands on Sunday night at 10pm.

We're going to Anguilla for a little over two weeks during Christmas/New Years (wedding is September).  It's easier to take time off around the holidays and we'll miss hurricane this season.

We went to a wedding in Anguilla last Christmas and it was fantastic...  It's so beautiful and you can also celeb watch a bit (Brad & Jen were breaking up there while we were on the island!).  Plus a lot of the tourists are from Europe, so as an American--it's fun to interact with both the local population and tourists from different cultures.  Oh, and St. Maarten is a short ferry ride away for a change of scenery and casinos....

Oh, I want to go to Anguilla EVERY Christmas now!  Just talking about it makes me so excited!

Cath - I have already been to Paris. Its a great place for culture.. .. but honestly, i didn't love it.  Which is why I don't want to spend tons of time there. FI has never been there, but I'm sure he could live without seeing all the art museums and stuff.. I think the last time I was there I was there for 3 or 4 days and we saw EVERYTHING.. but it was a very whirlwind tour.. I don't remember much. I remember i LOVED montmartre..hated my hotel.. and it was raining and cold when we went to the top of the eiffel tower.. thats about it..  You do raise a good point though, we can't just sit on the beach for days and days.. We're not beach people.. When we go to the beach here, I get bored after like an hour.. I went to the south of france too.. and i was just overwhelmed by how PRETTY everything was.. The sky and the water.. and everything.. just gorgeous..

Venice is the only of the places I haven't been. It was FIs request.. so thats where we will go!

oh wow, I'm loving this thread!! A Carribean honeymoon sounds so incredibly beautiful and relaxing! I love looking at everyone's links. But we are off to Europe. FH wants to check out the Porsche factory in Germany (he's obsessed with this). We have two weeks so I'm thinking that we'll spend 4 or five days in Germany (I've already been to Munich/Berlin)..we are missing Octoberfest by a week which is very depressing as we were looking forward to sitting at long tables, beer mugs in hand, singing our brains out. Ah well! Munich is a great city that deserves some time anyway. Then we are off (by train most likely) to the south of France in search of great food and wine. Then a week in Italy with main stops in Florence/Venice and visits to....no no, you guys you're right, Italy deserves more time...maybe I can talk him into skipping France and spending extra time in Italy. I'm a textile designer and I know that I'm going to be in heaven with all the incredible art/culture/food/architecture/history/shoes. mmmmm... shoes.

MS, where are you staying in Venice? That has always seemed like the perfect honeymoon spot to me and I'm glad that we are going too.

Melissa Sue,

If you are concerned about getting bored sitting on beaches, the south of France is a perfect place to be!  Spent two weeks there last spring and didn't get bored once!  I might suggest getting out of the bigger cities, like Nice, and checking out some of the smaller Provencal towns--Tour Tour, Aix en Provence, etc.  There are vineyards galore, the countryside is just beautiful, the food is fantastic and the people are so friendly and wonderful (such a breath of fresh air after the hustle and bustle in a city like Paris).  Honestly, after spending time in the smaller towns, it made places like Nice very difficult to take....

PM me if you want suggestions!

Snow_Happy,

Your honeymoon sounds fantastic!   I begged my fiance to go skiing on our honeymoon since we're doing it over Christmas, but he is a beach fiend and I like that too, so, we went for that.  I made him promise me a long weekend at Snowbird in Utah next winter though, as a compromise...  Eep!  That is going to be so much fun for you!

Melissa Sue--I second visiting the small towns while you're in the south of France.  Aix en Provence is lovely.  Depending on the time of year, you may get lucky and the lavender will be blooming in Provence.  One of my favorite memories of being in the south of France is riding the train through fields and fields of blooming lavender with the windows down.  It was so beautiful and peaceful!

We spent three weeks in Italy, primarily Tuscany.  Rented a car, traveled around.  It was absolutely wonderful.  We'd go back in a heart beat.

I dunno bit early to have decide yet… but we are leaning towards another Narrowboat holiday… probly around Cheshire, or maybe follow in Harrison Fords wake and cruise the Llangollon Canal in Wales.

Have thought about something foreign.. would like to go back to visiting the US again, having only been to Seattle but that’s kinda pie in the sky with the budget

We went to Hawaii for 2 weeks.  I could take it or leave it but my husband adores Hawaii.  We went to the Big Island for 3 days, Maui for 1 week, and Oahu for 4 days.  If anyone contemplates Maui, I would highly recommend the condo we stayed at.  It is NOT a full service hotel, they pretty much just give you the keys and leave you on your own, so for those who want to feel more like you're at someone's house over in a hotel, it's fantastic.  Every unit has a beachside lanai, snorkeling right in front of you, beaches on either side, right in Kihei, this place is spectacular.

Europe would be wonderful but don't go in August, when all the Europeans will be on vacation and things will be very crowded (and hot).  You can't beat Italy or France.  Venice has got to be one of the most romantic cities b/c there's not a ton of sight-seeing like museums and monuments, it's more like a lot of walking around and marvelling at the beautiful architecture and canals.  Paris is another romantic city but not if you are taking a whirlwind tour of all the sights.  I've been to Paris about 8 times and what's best is just relaxing and walking around, enjoying cafes and the Seine.  I lived in the French Riviera for a while (Nice) and the whole coast is dotted with amazing little villages on the seaside and some of them have good beaches too.  Provence and Tuscany are also extremely romantic--you can rent a car and be relaxed and stop at wineries for tastings and stay in little medieval villages.  Personally, I preferred Provence over Tuscany b/c there were hardly any Americans in Provence and I thought its landscape was prettier than Tuscany's.

I wouldn't recommend trying to cover too much European geographical area in your honeymoon b/c you'll end up dealing with travel logistics instead of relaxing, and maybe feel rushed (who wants to feel rushed on their honeymoon??).  You can always go back to Europe and see other regions (and the dollar should eventually have more buying power than it does currently against the Euro--keep in mind the current exchange rate is awful for American dollars).

We are going to Venice for our honeymoon, about 3 days following our wedding.  It's geographically desirable for us b/c it's a 2-hour drive from my fiance's family home in Slovenia, where we are going 1 week after our wedding in LA (and having a second ceremony at his family's Catholic church in Slovenia).  We've both been to Venice many times so we are going to just relax for a couple days before heading to the Slovene ceremony, enjoy the canals and walking around, go out to Lido island and enjoy the beach and the Adriatic Sea, and of course, eat and drink a ton of yummy Italian food and wine!!
