Last year I saw an advert for an engagement ring but neglected to write down the maker of it. I am hoping that if I describe it maybe someone will know who makes it.

It is a solitaire diamond set in a solid, cone shaped bezel- instead of being set in 4 prongs, (much like a flatened scoop of ice cream in a cone), and the sides of the ring bridge up near the top of the bezel.
I believe the setting to be platinum or white gold. Does this ring sound at all familiar?

Hmmm...It sounds like a bezel set ring for sure but no, I don't know the manufacturer that you are looking for.

I DO, however, now have a craving for an ice cream cone!

HERE is a thread with bezel set rings.

Do any of this look like what you saw?

Sounds maybe like this Rudolf Erdel (this one was a solomonbrothers.com):

Or this one (not sure who makes it-- also at solomonbrothers.com):

Close. but no. The bezel goes 100% around the diamond, and the "cone" of the setting completely encases the sides of the diamond.

This is my e ring, and the photo makes it seem like it has a V on the side, but it's actually round on both sides.

Nope Tony, not "it" but getting closer. The ring I'm after has the cone pointy at the bottom, the bridge part is wider and it is not two-toned, it's all platinum (or white gold).

I think you'll have luck if you search google with variations of "cone ring diamond."

Good luck, and please post if you find it, I'd love to see it!

This is Very close, the cone is exactly right. However, it should be all platinum and if I remember correctly the sides bridge up separate from the circle of the ring (does that make any sense?!).

george sawyer also makes the 'cone' with the pointy end solitaire ring.  i've seen it in green gold with a red gold bezel.  doesn't have to to be his standard mokume gane....

Another link, wmrichey. Just one question, do you think the pavillion of the diamond stays clean?

Good guess, but no go. I'm looking for the bezel to be shape like an icecream cone, and for the sides of the ring to arch up toward the top of the bezel.

I hope people keep trying to find it thanks

Look at R. W. Wise Goldsmiths ... they cite the name of one designer who uses this come bezel allot (and very gracefully): William Richey.  There are more versions of that setting by him, including all platinum. You may want to look up his work at other online galleries as well.

George Sawyer uses the respective type of bezel as well... in an unexpected way:

I can think of a few but they don't have the cone. Cross Jewlers has a lot of nice full bezels but they don't have cones.
