The jewelery company Natalie K (whose settings I really like) has a line of branded ideal cut H&A diamonds...but they're EGL certified. This is throwing me for a loop! I guess if you want an EGL certed diamond it's a good way to ensure you're getting a well cut one, but I think it's strange to make any kind of branded cut EGL certed, no? Would it be a good idea to look at these stones (provided they're priced fairly) in one color and clarity grade higher than you'd normally seek out, as EGL's grades are typically "off" by one grade? (My backstory is that my boyfriend will not buy online, so please don't suggest "all you need to do is contact one of the pricescope vendors" - trust me, we've been through it! So, my mission is to make it as easy as possible for him to buy a well cut diamond locally, without him having to deal with sarin, a big chart full of cut parameters, etc. Last thing I'd said to him was to look for an AGS 000 in my specs, but maybe these stones are another option. - they're carried by a local vendor here. I'm getting him an idealscope, so any stone he ultimately bought would be viewed through it first) What do people think? I would never steer him toward HOF or 8*, even though these are one way to absolutely ensure a well cut diamond when he doesn't want to do a lot of research, because of the brand premium. I'm thinking that if these stones are EGL certed, that's a big sign that they're targeting a different market segment and are probably priced accordingly, no? |

EGL issues H&A reports while other labs do not... so it makes for a ood way to brand cut (which is what the store does, from what you say). Since their slight bias and the respective discount versus GIA color & clarity grades is clear there is little uncertainy involved, IMO. Abazias sells these EGL H&A in their special selection. They look really nice ! Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Cool, thanks! Good to know they're somewhat respectable, and there's a real reason that they are EGL certed. Thanks! Sounds like an option for us
