Now that I've narrowed down the stone to two choices (viewing on Tuesday as that's the earliest they can accomodate) I need to determine a few design specifications.  I am having the Ritani Endless Love center round center with bezel set halo, pave shank custom made by WF.

The band is going to be 2mm (if I bump it up to 2.3mm the melee size will change from 1.4 to 1.7 pointers I believe).  However, I have no clue what the halo width should be.  Can you please make recommendations?  I want the halo to compliment the center stone, not complete.  Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Center stone will either be 1.12 or 1.265.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm - I think chellebelle's ring is a stunning example of ideal proportions between the center stone and the halo in her Ritani Endless Love ring.  In her thread here, she states that the center stone is about 1.15 ct, but I didn't find any reference to the melee.

My pear stone is 1.5 ct and I have 2 pointers in my halo.  Thread is here
Diamondlil's pear stone is 2 ct and she has 1 pointers in her halo.  Thread for that is here.

And a pic of a ring closest to what you're probably looking at is chellebelle's below...chelle - any idea of the size of your melee??

I've been doing the same research myself, I have a 1 carat rb and I have been trying to figure out the size of the melee. I have been trying to determine the overall radius that I want to be about 11mm so that the stone will give the appearance of a much larger ring. Remember shrinkage!! So I don't want my halo to be too small, but I don't want the center stone to look too tiny either.
Take a look at this Ritani Ring, it is part of the masters collection. The shank is wider on this than the endless love collection it is about 3mm+. It has princess diamonds hidden under the shoulders and center diamond. The ring is very pretty in person. The melee is a 1 pointer and the overall radius inc. the center diamond is 10mm+. I have been trying to copy this from the ritani site, but can't it is under the bridal section, ring # Engagement - 1RD2122B.

The overall radius that I want to be about 11mm ...

I can do this better with pen & paper - hopefully the stark electronic doodle will do for starters.

A version of the ring in the picture, but with a modern brilliant and slightly larger halo is listed HERE: 0.75 cts round with a 12mm wide halo. That one looks a bit much IMO.  Your version with a larger center should look great.

Oh well... just a thought.

Check out this link http://www.ritani.com/flash/view_page.php?style_num=1RD2122B for a picture of the Ritani Halo, this is the 10mm halo ring, it has 66 pts of small diamonds including the band. The center stone is .96 ct. The halo is 10mm. I don't know what size the melee is in the halo but I have seen this ring in person and it is balanced very nicely. Maybe Ana can give us an estimate as to the pointer size  in the melee.

Maybe Ana can give us an estimate as to the pointer size.

Glad to help, if and when I can

I really could not guess what size are the diamond dots in the Ritani Halo... the diamonds on the shank are taperred in size away from the center stone which does not allot a simple guess. However, they should be very small - smaller than those in the ring from Fay attached to the previous post. If that picture represents a 1 carat stone, each diamond in the halo could not be more than 1mm (perhaps even smaller). So those are pointers, I would think.

Anyway, the one who has to answer this is the jeweler who will make the ring.

You might want to follow the story of the rings of "Firegodess" ... she changed her 1.5cts pear from a thick to a thin halo.

The thick version is on this thread and the thin here and on her avatar now

(hope you do not mind what your pictures have become, FireGodess)

Fire, Mam, Ana.....thank you all for the comments & great advice!  (Fire, *love* the final version of your custom work.  It's beautiful)

Ana I am blown away by all of the thoughts & recommendations you posted.  Thank you for the advice & effort.  The mock ups are great!  I agree that the halo should be small & not large.  Personally, if I am going to go to the trouble of finding an ideal/super ideal cut I don't want to detract from it.  I just didn't know if the halo should be equal to the band or less than the band.  I did a bit of measuring this week-end & decided that I like the look of a 1mm halo with a 7.02 center (imagine me with the ruler, paper, pen & scissors out...lol).  I asked WF if it's possible to do a mock up.  Denise is checking into it.

Hopefully in the very near future I will be able to post pictures of the final work.  :)

Thanks again!

I think everyone has given you some great advice.  A mockup, if possible from WF, would be absolutely ideal!  I have to say, I noticed immediately when I had the thick halo how much it really detracted from the stone, but I had no idea just how MUCH it made my stone look smaller and less the focal point until the two pictures were side by side in Ana's post.  This is definitely a decision that requires just as much thought as you're putting into it here!  Good luck.

NoonersMom, I'm sure WF will come through with just the right proportions.  I like the stones for the halo to be the same or smaller than that of the band.  FG's side-by-side pics are a perfect example of why.  If the halo is too thick and heavy for the center stone, it detracts from both the main diamond and the delicate shank.  Keep us posted.
