MSNBC: Moviegoers trapped by pre-show ads. Advertising puts a damper on the theater experience Let's get more popcorn and enjoy the show, folks ![]() "These advertisements alone are so annoying to some movie-goers that an entire organization exists to combat them (and now the new pre-show films). The Captive Motion Picture Audience of America exists to “[convey] the clear dissatisfaction audiences have with the movie viewing experience” and “to show TV-like advertising before movies is well past the line of ‘ad-creep,’ is unprofitable, and will lead to a consumer backlash.” " Pricescope |

Thanks for suggestions, guys. Not sure about "Notebook" - not a big fun of a romantic lovestory :) "Open Range" we might like (at least my wife love hourses :)) We like French movies... I'm thinking about getting more movies by the same director who made Girl On The Bridge. Some of them rated high on Amazon Pricescope |

These are older movies, but somehow I missed them the first time around...have you seen the colors trilogy, named after the colors of the french flag? Blue is first, then White, and the finale is Red. Red must be seen last in order to appreciate the trilogy. I really liked them. I was also very entertained by the movie Amelie!!!

yes, BLUE, WHITE, and RED should be seen in that exact order. BLUE is ever so moody french. WHITE is almost chaplinesque and more 'european'. RED brings it all home in a way only the french can do. and since you liked GIRL ON THE BRIDGE, i can also recommend by the same director THE MAN ON THE TRAIN. THE HAIRDRESSER'S HUSBAND is also another very fine french film. additionally, spanish cinema is great and a real treat. peace, movie zombie "I don't feel enjoyment watching films that evoke passivity. ok, so i finally got to a really mainstream type theatre and got bombarded by the ads. annoying. the good news, however, is the movie was very very good. if you get a chance, go see CRASH. i'd see this one a 2nd time. SPOILER?: not to ruin it for anyone but the director wrote the script after he was carjacked in 1991 after going into a video store to get some obscure norweigan film....1st brand new car he'd ever bought [a mercedes] and the car was never found. he became curious about motives, etc. and the script for CRASH was the result. peace, movie zombie "I don't feel enjoyment watching films that evoke passivity. I do not know many new movies. The ones I see are usually ones my daughter wants to see. (For example, "Bend It Like Beckham" about an English girl who wants to play soccer. I saw this on DVD at home.) I *am* an "old movie" aficionado, however. I like the movies of some French and Italian directors very much, but also love many of the movies made in Holywood in the 1930s and 1940s (including romantic, screwball comedies). Leonid, you do not like romantic love stories. Do you like old comedies? If so, I can heartily recommend some Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy and some Cary Grant and Irene Dunne comedies. I assume that you know as many European movies as I do, if not more, but I love the early Fellini movies like "La Strada" and "Nights of Cabiria" that star his wife, Giulietta Massina. I find them incredibly touching. Deborah A Girl's Best Friend |

i also highly recommend MAD HOT BALLROOM as a very moving and up lifting doc re a program in the new york schools that is making a difference in young children's lives. and its fun with some great music..... both CRASH and MAD HOT BALLROOM address issues of importance in our society today. anyone who liked BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM is pretty much guaranteed to like MAD HOT BALLROOM. both films give me hope for the future. peace, movie zombie ps my movie taste is all over the board. two of my absolute favorites are THE THIRD MAN and ALL ABOUT EVE. Date: 5/16/2005 12:25:09 PM Author: movie zombie ps my movie taste is all over the board. two of my absolute favorites are THE THIRD MAN and ALL ABOUT EVE. Well ditto on the taste all over the board and ditto on "All About Eve"! My favorite line is delivered to Marilyn Monroe's character, who fears calling out, "Butler!" (because it might be someone's name), and thus calls, "Waiter!" at a party. The acerbic film critic (Alastair DeWitt?) says something to the effect of, "You have a point. A fatuous one, but a point nonetheless"! Deb A Girl's Best Friend |

Mine, i highly recommend sitting through BLUE and White before seeing RED. BLUE is ever so french and moody. i can still visualize one of the cinematic scenes because it is so artsy french. WHITE is actually an easier watch if you're not into art film. then see RED! it just pulls everything together so well. while RED stands on its own as a film, it makes so much more sense if you've seen BLUE and WHITE. and it really should be done in the order it was filmed. FI has good movie taste! peace, movie zombie ps saw a 1930's classic the other night: MY MAN GODFREY. highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. film club showed a movie yesterday that i would add to the 'can be seen by the whole family this summer' list: MARCH OF THE PENGUINS should be released in july. while its hot and/or humid outside, get yourself to an airconditioned movie theatre and treat yourself to a trip to antartica for a visit with emperor penguins. narration provided by morgan freeman. peace, movie zombie "I don't feel enjoyment watching films that evoke passivity.
