This a pretty funny article that aims to reveal the personality of the wearer and the quality relationship by analyzing the rings of several promnient celebrities. Sounds more like they forced the ring analysis to fit with what everyone's expectations of a particularly celebrity are, but whatever... This one made me mad-- Nicole Richies ring:  "What it says about Nicole: Inexpensive, colored stones are used for only one reason—to save money. They allow the wearer to get a lot of bang for little bucks. Common responses wearers give for choosing a colored stone include “It’s my favorite color” or “It’s my birthstone.” More likely the wearer wants big and fashionable but does not want a big price tag. Engagement rings that are chosen to impress rather than to represent the union hints that the union will usually dissolve quicker than an Alka-Seltzer tablet in water." Yeah right! Anyone who follows any of my posts knows that colored gem-loving girls like me are NOT in it just to impress people! We just like what we like! Plus, I would never call her $10,000 ring "inexpensive"! What do you think of the article? Do you think e-rings can be analyzed to say something about the relationship or your personality? |

I have seen those diamond shape personality things... and I don't really think they are any more accurate than a horoscope. I do think certain styles are traditional and therefore, can tell you that whoever picked the ring had traditional tastes... versus a modern setting that might be a bit more funky.

I'd read that Nicole Ritche's ring cost more like $40,000 or $60,000. I can't remember which, but I remember something up in that neighborhood. That's a load of sh*t about why someone would get a colored stone e-ring - you're exactly right, because most people *think* they're cheaper even when often they're not, you have to be willing to put up with that, and you have to really know what you like and not be afraid to be un-traditional. Of course her ring, which has an over 20 carat center stone, would have been much more exp if it were a 20 carat diamond, but that's ridiculous! It's a different look, and no one would wear a diamond that big. It's not just about having a bigger ring, it's about a look and a style that is funkier and just different than a traditional e-ring. If someone had the reasoning stated in that article, they'd just get a big old fake diamond engagement ring, not a gemstone!

Hey Ladies: I love colored stones and personally think that traditional white diamonds are a little on the boring side. That's all you see on people, is colorless diamonds. No offense to others, my friends and family have colorless diamonds as well. It just doesn't do anything for me. Colored stones regardless of price are more exciting and dynamic in my opinion. My hubby gave me a yellow diamond which I just love because the color is so sunny and warm. Color is important to me I guess, the colorless diamonds are a bit too icy for me. Re: Nicole Ritchies ring... I think the deep pink is gorgeous, strong, and feminine. Very fun ring, and why shouldn't it be??? Who cares that it didn't cost a gazillion dollars? Rooty

I have always loved sapphires. Sapphires mean fidelity. In fact, my sapphire monster (see avatar) may migrate to my left hand when I want to wear another RHR. It also looks great with my wedding band. I also read that Nicole Ritchie's ring was in the $40 to 80k range. That certainly is not "inexpensive." Besides, it's obvious she adores the ring.

Just look at who wrote the article. How can "the diamond guy" be objective about an engagement ring that isn't a diamond? I think he's insulting and full of hot air. He wouldn't have the first clue about what my engagement ring says about me.

Well, I love Nicole Richies original ring. And I love my ruby e-ring. I didnt pick it out for price, I actually had to fight for it. My FI was worried at first what people would think if I didnt have a diamond. He is in real estate and all of his co-workers wifes have HUGE rocks. I had to prove to him that he could spend just as much money (or more) on ruby than on a diamond. He also eventually knew it was what I wanted and it is okay to be unique it doesnt mean he doesnt love me or that we dont expect our relationship to last. The guy who wrote this is an idiot.

The author of that article evidently forgot that Princess Diana chose a blue sapphire for her engagement ring and Sarah Ferguson chose a ruby for hers. They could have had their pick of the crown jewels.

Humph! Clearly he has never tried to find an emerald without silk in it...they are not cheap! My sisters birthstone is an emerald and I have never been able to buy her anything because they are ether full of silk, yucky, or WAY out of my league. What a wanker, I would be proud to have any ring from my SO as my e-ring. That means you are loved so much, valued so much by another person that they want to spend the rest of their lives with you. Who cares what the ring looks like, it is what it says.

Well, clearly whoever believes that colored stones are always less expensive than diamonds is sadly mistaken. I fell in love with a beautiful 2 carat ruby once, with quite a hefty price tag ($31,500). I'll bet you can find quite a lovely 2 carat diamond for significantly less.
