Okay, if any of you remember, my sister bought a generic asscher from Whiteflash. That thread is here:

Initial quest

After a lot of searching, she found elements of vintage rings she liked (mainly from Fay Cullen pictures) and then interviewed a number of So. Cal. custom jewelers to see who could help her craft her perfect ring. In the end, the only two who seemed to understand the care and intricacy involved, and who could help her modify her desired elements into an attractive yet durable ring were Singlestone and Renaissance Platinum. There were others she thought would work if she were looking for a sleek, modern ring, but not for one with vintage elements.

She ended up with Singlestone. They initially told her 4-6 weeks, but in the end it took about 8 weeks. Here's the initial wax:

And she hates the way her hands look in this one, but it gives an idea of the size:

I think that ring is just beautiful!  Wow!

It's unique from anything I've seen,  yet it's so classic looking.  My goodness!

Congrats to your sister for a job well done!

The only disappointment is that we didn't expect the basket setting to be that bulky from the edge-view. We wanted it to taper in more. However, she thinks she can live with it and can't quite remember what it looked like in the 2nd to final version she approved. It would take quite a re-working to fix it and she thinks she can live with it if they can't shave some metal off easily.

Final specs:

Square emerald
F
VS2
.87 carats (5.38mm x 5.39mm)
Table: 62.2
Pav Depth: 47.3
Total Depth: 66.5
Crown height: 15.6

Setting: platinum with 1.6mm width shank

Oddly enough an appraiser just gave the stone a D color, with the melee E/F VVS1-VS2. Granted, it was in the setting...

Thanks! I'm just happy my baby sister choose something I didn't have to pretend to love! Of course, being my sister, she naturally has great taste!

One of the issues we we wrestling with was whether to upgrade to a large stone or to plunk the money in the setting. The double bezel actually makes the stone look large enough so a bigger stone would have been too bulky.

OH. MY. GOSH.   !!!!!  The detailed first pic of the ring and the hand shot are absolutely TO DIE FOR!!!  I absolutely adore the delicate details of the ring...the swirls where the shank meets the basket....just love it!!!

This ring is just stunning. You're right about it being the perfect proportions--anything larger would look too big to me, too. The detailing on the shank is lovely.

I'm really coveting your sister's ring right now...

It's beautiful.  I love the detail on the sides and the ring looks perfect on her hand.  What is your sister's ring size?

Yep. and that's another hunt in and of itself. She was at first thinking of having the ring made so a matching w-band would lie flush--or having the entire set made at the same time. However, when she was first consulting with Singlestone and looking at wedding sets she discovered that she actually liked the gap you get with vintage rings, so now she's hunting for something that will complement the e-ring.
