yay! Its official! They said "2-6 months" which is a pretty big range!! If it only take two months I'll still have a LOOOONG time til my wedding! There was someone in there today ordering for thier July 2006 wedding though.. so i'm not the only nutjob. I also found out that I'm a size 6 in my boobs and hips.. but a size 10 waist.. I sure wish I had a waist... I'm just not destined to though! its all good though! I'm very excited.

Congrats....ordering your dress is a big step! I ordered mine the day I tried it on, they told me 6 months at least....it has been 41/2....I can not wait for it to come in an try it on in my size since the samples are so big.

Congrats! Don't you feel like a huge rock has been lifted off your shoulders?  When I ordered my gown, they had given me a date of the expected delivery, and the actual delivery date was about 2 weeks later, 4 1/2 months after I ordered it.  I had tried calling them a few times hoping that the dress had come in early, but no luck.

I still don't understand the bridal sizes.  I feel like they are a gimmick so that you have to get alterations.  Make you order sizes too large, then make you get alterations so it can "fit."  Aren't they getting enough money from us already?

But can't wait to see you in the dress!

Cliff Clavin moment...

It is my understanding that bridal sizes (for most designers, not all--just to make everything more complicated!) haven't changed throughout the years.  Apparently, at some point American clothing manufacturers adjusted their sizing to make women feel better by being in smaller sizes.  The bridal industry didn't follow suit for whatever reason.

You know how everyone talks about how Marilyn Monroe was a size 12, but it was a different size 12 than today's?  I think that'd make her a regular size 6 then...

Perhaps that's all urban legend, but someone explained it to me that way while I was gown shopping.

British sizes are funky to us Americans too.  Don't they start at 6 instead of 0?  Something like that...

abradabra - I think you are right about the bridal size thing.. so between that and the fact that I am funny shaped.. I'm just screwed.. My fiance was so funny last night! I had told him that I ordered my dress and I had to order a size 10, but that my boobs and hips were a size 6..  and he didn't really understand.. but looked at me like I was crazy.. so then later we were at the Gap.. and I was looking for a dress there and I said I needed a size 4.. and he looks right at me.. and says..
"WAIT.. so you mean wedding dress sizes are different from Gap dress sizes?" and I'm like.. YUP..
he said
"don't ever expect me to buy you a dress.. I can buy you jeans and shirts because I know to buy you XS or size 2.. but I can't figure these dresses out!"

hes a cutie..

As for the alterations thing.. I would have needed alterations anyway. I PROBABLY could have squeeszed into a size 8.. but it still would have been way too big in my boobs. thats just the way it is.. so I wasn't too upset about ordering the 10. the 10 was the sample size I tried on.. and it was definitely roomy in my hips and my boobs, but tight in my waist.. which actually is what made my waist look so little in the dress! haha.

Congrats on ordering your dress! I am still looking around for my dress - I know I have a lot of time (March 2006) so I'm not in too much of a hurry.  Can't wait to see pics of you in the dress when you get it!

That's a very pretty dress!  Is your veil as long as the dress?

windy- my veil is longer than my dress. I love the veil so much. I haven't ordered it yet.. because FMIL is buying it for me. Its soooo perfect for the gown.. It took them forever to bring me that veil to go with my dress though.. I don't know why.. since its so perfect. They kept giving me shorter ones..

It's a very pretty veil.  I don't think I've ever seen one that long... or maybe I thought it was part of the dress.

How exciting.  Have you picked out your shoes yet?  Are you going to wear a tiara?

Have you decided on shoes yet?

Lovey - Thanks! I love your gown too! I Just was gushing about it in the other thread!!

I can't rememeber who makes my veil. I will find out when I order it and let you know. I don't think it is by Symphony though. I swear when I read the tag in the shop the designer name was "Richard M." but I may have completely invented that.. since I have never found anything by that name anywhere on the web.

My dress is white.. but I'm thinking that the one I had on in those pictures was Ivory. I don't know if you remember, but when I first saw my dress it was in a window display at a place that was not my bridal shop.. So.. I went in to try it on, and they had another sample of the dress that they kept in the store.. THe one in the store was white, and the one on the mannequin was ivory. (I can't ever tell the difference unless they are right next to each other)..

So I tried on the white one the first couple times I went in to try on my dress. But the time I went back and took the pictures.. the dress seemed SO much tighter than it had, and I thought I had just gotten super fat.. And I also remember the dress looking really ivory compared to the veil..

but then a few weeks ago I went and tried it on again and it wasn't tight anymore.. it was big again.. and my weight really hadn't changed at all. So.. I'm thinking that the time I went in and took the pictures they gave me the ivory sample to try on and maybe it was a smaller size or something.. If it fit the mannequin it probably was smaller!

My shoes aren't final.. but I'm thinking that I want these ones. They are from Davids.

But I also really like these, although I don't think they go with my dress

Okay.. I'll stop babbling now!

The first pair of shoes seem very comfy. I only wore them while trying on dresses at Davids Bridal.. but they seemed very comfortable and they are SO pretty.

You can post as many pics as you want as long as they are linked from elsewhere on the internet. You can only "attach" one file per post. There is a button on the tool bar for next to the smileys (on the top) that is for "insert image" and you just click on that and paste the URL to the pic.
