Will platinum rings bend to be not truly round like gold rings will or are they hard enough to keep their perfect round shape?

DH and I have been wearing platinum bands for 10 years and neither one has ever bent in any way. They seem quite durable, except for surface scratches that get totally buffed out at our annual cleaning/insurance check.

This is soomething I am still battleing with.....guys I work with have said that their settings where platnium, and their wives bent them very easily, and they work in officies. One fo them even had the stone rest in 18k WG and now said it has not bent at all.....

It also makes a big difference in what the other 5% or 10% of alloy metal is.

While I don't remember the common alloying elements for Platinum off of the top of my head; I do remember that the cheapest one maked for the weakest (most easily bendable) alloy.

Certain name brand (tiffiinies) or some custom jewelrs will use the stronger platinum alloy as they are not trying to produce the cheapest ring to compete in the market.

Someone else can fill you in on the common alloying elements.  I do not have time to look it up tonight.

A local jewler told me she orders the settings "extra" thick....meaning one size larger then the normal to make them stand up more. I assume she means instead of a 2.5mm band, it is a 3. That being said, she doesnt know or want to admit about knowing the platnium blend being used. From what I have read so far, it seems that 900 platinum, using a 10% iridium mix is the best choice....

A 2mm thick platinum band will not bend easily... but most are not that thick and I am not sure it's a great idea to make rings thick enough so that they do not bend. The havy ones are really not confortable - at least not on my relatively small fingers.

Also, the larger the size of the ring, the thicker it needs to be to keep it's round shape.

Just a thought. IMO, "thicker" is not always better.
