Hi all...I know that it may be hard to say because i don't have all the specs, but, based on the limited descriptions, which would you prefer? A G, VS2, very good cut RB OR an H, SI2, ideal cut RB? Trying to help out a friend...thanks!

thanks belle! I forgot to mention that they are both almost exactly the same size, around 1.5ct. Ok, so, so far we have one vote for H, SI2, ideal..anyone else?

If the H SI2 looks great under the scope and if your friend is comfortable with the clarity, it'd make most sense for her to purchase this stone.

That's a toughie for me. I have a very good cut H VS1. We are looking to upgrade, and just saw several "ideal cut" stones. There is a MAJOR difference b/t my stone and the ideal cuts in terms of brilliance & fire. I could really tell that my stone wasn't up to snuff when placed beside the ideal cuts. In terms of color, an H and a G looked exactly the same to me. I could see a difference in F vs H but not G vs H. I saw a stone with SI2 that was not eye clean... and saw another that was. If the SI2 is eye-clean, I'd definitely go for the ideal cut H stone. My upgrade will be an ideal cut, because I just loved the performance compared to my "very good." I'd be happy with an H for sure. And I will happily go down in clarity as long as it's clean to my eyes. HTH!

i'd vote H SI2...i wouldn't want to spend the extra money for anything higher than an SI1 personally. edit: as long as it's mind clean (DF )

thanks so much to everyone who has responded....my friend has asked me about these two diamonds and my immediate reaction was to go for the H, SI2, ideal also. However, it just so happens that i have an H, SI2, ideal cut! So i thought that maybe i was just being a little biased and wanted to hear others' opinions. it's good to know that i was probably giving her good advice...thanks again!

As long as it's eyeclean, then I'd go for the ideal cut stone too. H and G are just one color grade and in the middle so I wouldn't bother with the higher grade. If you're color sensitive, you're gonna see color in both. If you're not color sensitive, then the color it is doesn't matter anyways.
