Hi everyone! I am a serious browser of this site and post very little. I need your help. I am having my old wedding band mushed up and taking the diamonds out to remount. I found my appraisal sheet the other day and read all of the measurements and such. They mean NOTHING to me! What do you look for?

Princess Cut 1.10
Colour: E
Clarity: SI 1 (can't see nothing under that "loupe" thing) small feather under claw.
Class 2B?
Polish symmetry: Vgood
6.00mmx5.00mmx4.65mm

If I wanted a diamond to look bigger than it is I should look for a thinner girdle right?

I'm not sure what you mean by girdle (the only time I use that word is when it's on the stone, and you can't change that!)...but if I wanted a stone to look bigger I would get a ring with a thin shank (the band) - maybe 1.7 to 2 mm wide, which would really make a 1 ct stone pop!

If you want a diamond to "look" bigger then it is I suggest wearing reading glasses.  Really, you are stuck with the shape of a diamond once you have said, "I'll take it."  Do you best shopping BEFORE you say yes.

If you want to buy a diamond that looks the proper diameter for its weight, then buy one that is not overly deep and does not have a thick girdle.  Buying a deep stone and/or one with a thick girdle means there is more diamond weight with less diameter.  Now, too much of a good thing can also be quite detrimental.  Too thin a stone, too thin a girdle creates lack of brilliancy and sometimes increased fragility.  Proper moderation is what is called for.
