Hello everyone- My boyfriend and I are shopping and as each day grows closer, he becomes increasingly irritated with me and my pursuit for "the perfect ring". I want an antique setting w/ an Asscher cut diamond. He has a limited budget of $5,000-$7,000. Can you please tell me where I can get the best setting and best looking Asscher? I found a setting that I liked at Jared but their diamonds were way over priced as compared to what I have seen online. I would like some sidestones w/ an antique setting and at least a carat if possible (probably a pipe dream). Any information you could provide would help. We are hoping to do this sooner rather than later but I am overwhelmed by the entire process. ****I love him and would accept a twist tie from him, but damnit, twist ties just don't sparkle :)**** |

Just ran a pricecsope search and it looks like a 1 carat asscher of excellent color and clarity will run you just over 5000, so definitely within your budget. As for antique settings, I believe most vendors here carry some. Dirt Cheap Diamonds defnitely has a section on their site with antique settings (replicas). You might also want to check out antiqueengagementrings.com. I'm sure there are others too.

There are some real droolworthy ones in the bunch. www.goodoldgold.com If you contact him he can provide you with the information on them you need. ........... Hi, Welcome to Pricescope. Take a look at the "eye candy" folder in the "show me the ring" forum and you might be able to get some ideas regarding the type of setting you would like. Most of the vendors here can make a setting for you if you provide them a photo. I've seen some beautiful asschers at www.whiteflash.com under their expert selection. I have not personally purchased anything from them, but many members here have and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about ther customer service and quality. Keep looking and ask as many questions as you want. You'll find the members here are more than willing to help.

You are off to a good start . . . but I think you should narrow down what you're looking for. First, pick a setting, and once you know how much you have to spend on the diamond, pick the color and clarity you want and get the biggest stone with the best cut you can for the $. Some ideas: White Flash: Settings: antique look setting in plat for $1595 platinum antique style ring for $1995 Stones: 1.1 G VS2 for $4290 (discounted through PS) 1.31 J VVS2 for $3720 You can mix and match at the other sites mentioned above as well.

We had a similiar budget- I got a .87 carat asscher in a platinum Carl Blackburn art deco setting...the finished product was just under 7,000. The nice thing about Carl Blackburn settings are that they are hand carved, they do not come from a cast/mold like many others do...just a thought and there are a lot to choose from.

Here is an asscher that looks good to me...there's alot more to asschers than just specs and/or color, clarity and price...the pattern is very important, ratio close to 1/1 etc. Everyone has a different eye for asschers. http://www.whiteflash.com/asscher/Asscher-cut-diamond-688358.htm I posted a thread once called 'All About Asschers' which had some great info from experts and people who chimed in...take a look at it, it also has images on what great asschers should look like. They are hard to find!! The one above is nice, not perfect though. I like the pattern in the picture. You are looking for symmetry amongst other things. The J VVS that was posted up above looks nice as well. In terms of settings, that above diamond is about 4500, so if you got something along those lines, I would get a diamond bezel setting aka like something at DCD with the micro pave bezels, it will add more to the ring and stone. Lovey's ring is a great example of that, stunning setting and amazing asscher stone and the whole piece looks huge on her finger, I think the stone is something like a 1.2c? Good luck! ________________________________ |

Ritani makes this:![]() and a few other versions that seem to fit 1-carat-ish asschers rather well Perhaps this one ![]() ![]() However, I don't know what you mean by "antique setting" ! There are dozens of styles with some history attached. Any clues ? ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Hopefully the problem resides in trying to position the stone for the photo, and not the stone itself.
