I just spoke to a jewler and he was against buying a diamond with an EGL certificate. He claims that they are inconsistent even if it is EGL USA and recommended buying GIA. How inconsistent are the EGL certs. Are they often off on color and clarity when compared to GIA cert? Is a GGL cert reliable at all?? THanks Mark

Mark, That's actually pretty common. You'll have most people recommend GIA over the other labratories. Regardless of which labratory has graded the diamond that you would like to purchase just make sure that you have the diamond examined by an independant appraiser. They will be able to let you know if there are any conflictions with the loose diamond not exactly matching up with the report. Good luck....
