Hi Folks, I was searching stones on pricescope by cut quality and was wondering about some of the AGS certificates while giving the proportions of the stone, did not rate that cut. As an example, one that I found on Whiteflash as one of their "Expert Selections" seemed to fall in the ASG 0 range when I ran it through the HCA and it had "excellent" polish and symmetry. I could not under why the certificate said nothing about the cut. Here is the link: http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=AGS-5351705# On the other hand, a "Cub Above" diamond from Whiteflash did have a cut rating on the AGS certificate and had "ideal" polish and symmetry. Here is the link: http://www.whiteflash.com/diamonds/diamond_Details.aspx?itemcode=AGS-5196606 Why the difference between the certificates and what is the significance? Thanks in advance. Eric |

DQD = Diamond Quality Document (the highest grade = "ideal") DQR = Diamond Quality Report (the highest grade = "excellent") The DQD is the “top shelf” AGS report - but not every stone that could receive Ideal grades is necessarily sent in for a DQD. The reasons can vary. Our own reasons have to do with consumer perception: We obtain a DQD for each “A Cut Above,” because they are Brian’s signature line. Part of the package includes acquiring this document with the prized “Ideal” nomenclature and specific 0 grade for cut. Alternately, we request a DQR for most Expert Selection diamonds sent to AGS. Of course, because Ideal polish and symmetry are reported as excellent on the DQR I’m sure we have AGS 0 “Triple Ideal” diamonds in Expert Selection which remain “disguised” as simple Ex/Ex on the DQR.
