I'm looking at a 2ct cushion with the following specs: EGL USA Cert. 7.41x6.82x4.89mm H color VS1 Depth 71% Table 55% Crown 15.5 Pavilion 42.10 Thin to ex. thick faceted Polish and sym. - good Flr - none The asking price is $9900. I've looked and looked AND looked at diamonds and this one has caught my eye. Just wondering if anybody has any input on the value or specs that might put me at ease. Good old buyers remorse before the purchase, right? Picture is attached. Thanks!

Except for the fact that it's pretty small for its ct weight, it looks very lively in the picture...you need to see it in person though!

I think you are probably right on the size, I didn't really consider those measurements as closely as the others. I'll have to compare the price with some other similar stones. I will get a chance to see it in person if I buy so I'm covered there. I do appreciate your feedback. Thanks!!

i agree with mmm. it looks like a pretty stone, but between the 71% depth and xthick girdle it's probably hiding a lot of weight where you can't see it. i think those measurements are fairly small for a 2 ct cushion.

Date: 3/15/2005 10:16:37 PM Author: hopper I'll have to compare the price with some other similar stones. Sure. Perhaps it may save you some to compare prices for diamonds of the same size ('cause that's what shows) not weight. You may even find a 1.6-1.7 carat piece with the same size and fine cut... ![]() The thick girdle sounds worse than 71% depth (IMO) on this one. the stone has a small table and most likely a high crown to go with it as well. Which means that at least some of the extra depth is placed right (above the girdle, that is). Aside this Just how thick can that girdle be ???? Given that total depth (approx.)= crown height + pavilion depth + girdle thickness, for this stone, the girdle appears to be more than 13% (on average). that's HUGE - almost as much as the entire crown height. Hope that's some typo ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

This is what I mean. That thick girdle looks "sturdy" enough to let any bit of the setting reflect inside the stone (not great). Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Wow, thanks for all of the extra data. I definitely learned something new today. You really helped break down the depth and table for me. I did get a side view of this stone and the girdle doesn't look too far off from the pictures you posted. Thanks for the education, it certainly will help me moving forward. ![]() ![]()

If it is an exact 2.00ct. I'd be hesitant to buy the diamond. The depth is too deep and the girdle associated with it makes the daimond look smaller. The picture you submitted is a good indication of my concerns. A 2.00ct. diamond should have an approximate lenght of 8.00mm +. I think by researching the various data available you will find a large selection of diamonds. to choose from. Good luck.

And the crown appears higher than 15% - it may be that the initial measurements were off (it happens). The stone is deep allright, but the price may be in line with that. If a larger looking stone comes with a brand, the premium would probably wipe out any advanatge. Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." Here's what I am trying to say about size, weight and prices. If your stone has good brilliance, the price does not sound too bad for how big it is. Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
