This is a pretty silly post, but I'm wondering for those who wear sandles often what kinds of styles work well for all day, lots of walking around, wear?

The two pairs of slides I have right now are killing my feet.  If I wear either of these for more than a few hours while running errands, I end up with *blisters* on my feet.  The shoes are Franco Sarto & Nine West so they're not very expensive, but still, you'd think they'd be okay on for an entire day

I need good slip ons that will go well with jeans and then a pair for shorts.  Nice ones that are gentle on feet, BUT still cute.

Does anyone have any tips as to what I should look for?

Thanks.

the problem with sandals is...there is virtually no support and there's not that friction barrier that you have when wearing socks.  i've lucked into a few good pair of comfortable sandals, but on the whole, "cute" and "all day wear" don't really go together.  i try to stay away from stiff leather and go for something strappy, as there is less material to cause problems.  in the end, usually you have to sacrifice something......comfort or style!  (if you find something that has both, LET ME KNOW!!)  good luck in your search!

my favorite online shoe place www.zappos.com this place has just about everything!  always free shipping and free returns, so if something doesn't fit, you can easily send it back.  (warning:  shopping here is very addicting!)

Websailor and I wear Teva sandals (you can get them at REI), certainly not fashionable, but functional.

My mom wears Clarks and swears by them. She gets them at QVC.

I wear 3 inch ankle strap sandals so I couldn't tell ya...(and yes, by end of September, my feet look like chopped liver).

I agree that Naturalizer shoes are super comfy and actually their styles have become alot more fashionable in recent years.

I love JCrew's summer shoes, they do a good job of keeping very fashionable and also functional and comfortable..I have some of the wooden graduated platforms from a few years back and the padding between them and the foot is pretty thick. This is just for 'wearing' aka not really doing tons of walking in them...hehee.

I also like Franco Sarto's shoes and sandals..also Jennifer Moore, oh and Nine West.

In terms of blisters, I almost always get blisters on ANY pair of new shoes I get, even new flip flops, my feet are so sensitive. But I keep at it and eventually the blisters stop and I can wear the shoes all I want. Don't know if maybe your feet are like this too.

Well, so far I have no solutions, but I second those Nine West sandals!  They are so NOT comfortable after a little bit!

But, actually, now that I think of it, I have one pair of Nine West sandals that are very comfortable.  But the leather is very very soft and supple and there is no scratchy label under your foot.  But I think I just lucked out with these a couple years ago!  Too bad, I should have bought a bunch!!

birkenstock has updated their 'look' and while still boxy, i love them:  purple suede, silver, browns, beiges, wrap around the ankle, black patent, ... you name it, i've got them.

oh and this is totally not relevant from a dressy/work sandal perspective...but this post inspired me to remember something I'd been forgetting to do for a while...

order new flip flops!

now not just any pair of flip flops..but Havaianas fllip flops. Heard of them? I guess a few years back they weren't as popular as they are now, but now they seem to be all the rage.

Anyway, I don't like them because they are trendy now since I have been wearing them for a few years, but rather I love them because THEY ROCK. I wear alot of flip flops, they litter the floor of my closet like little dead ants. JCrew, Jennifer Moore, fashion heeled ones, etc.

But for the typical everyday flip-flops, I swear by Havaianas. I got my first pair at a surf shop in Santa Cruz, because they were pale pink. Yum! They were also only $8. Extra yum!

Two months later I had 3 pairs. Now it's been about two years since I bought these and they are worn down thin...and I wear them literally DAILY for something, whether it's walking the dog, getting the mail etc. I wear them all winter long to Greg's amusement, well it is California.

Anyway, I just spent 40 minutes trolling the internet looking for the best prices and largest color selection and figured I'd post my love of Havainas here for those who are in the market for a summer fun flip flop that is comfortable, flexible, cheap and comes in LOTS of fun colors.

So far these are the two best websites I found:

http://www.flipflopcompany.com/
GREAT selection, ships from the US, good pricing, etc. I got 4 pairs for $52.00 including tax and shipping. YAH!

http://www.igapost.com/
This site seems like it has a great selection of colors etc but their size inventory seems depleted unless you have tiny feet, which I don't..heehee. I will keep them on hand for the future!

I ordered a new pair of black...also got cafe brown, shocking pink, and cyanic blue (light). It's popular to decorate Havainas with swarovski crystals ($100 each pair of shoes) and/or put a little swarovski crystal flower on the joint of the rubber V, VERY cute...my girlfriend has a pair of these in the orange.

Not sold? Check out the reviews I found here:
http://www.activeendeavors.com/productReviews/2004/havaianas/default.htm

Anyway I LOVE these shoes so if you get tired of looking for dressy sandals or work items..check these out instead. I think my favorite outfit in the summer is a black tank, black capris and a colorful pair of flip flops.

I bought a pair of Steve Madden "Slinky" sandals 6 years ago and I still wear those things religiously during the summer with shorts and jeans. They are still in great shape and my absolute favorite shoe! the slide part is made of an elastic fabric so I have never gotten a blister and they are SO confortable. I have worn them on all day amusement part trips, shopping trips, etc, and have always been very comfortable. the only problem is they are so noisy when I walk!!!

heres a pic:

My favorite color is sparkle!!!

Cole Haan has just started making flats with Nike Air technology in the heel! I bought some white leather flats from there -- so comfortable and very cute, too.

I also love Bally, Hogan and Marc Jacobs for flats. Never had so much as a blister from any of those brands.

I second the vote for Clark's.  I have probably 10 pairs!  But I've never bought any on QVC...I need to try them on first.  Not all sandals fit my foot the same.  Easy Spirit sandals also feel very good on my feet.  They feel like a pair of sneakers, but look cute enough to wear with a skirt.

Thanks!  I'd have never thought to check Naturalizer but just found a cute pair of kitten healed flip flops that will make for the perfect pair of fun shoes!    Still not very funtional, but a they're a move in the right direction.

Oh, and Mara, you've sold me on the Havaianas as I'm intrigued by the possibility that these flip flops willl transform me from a disheveled & hobbling mall shopping mere mortal into a sexy Brazilian beach goddess in ten seconds flat!

These are the ones I'm ordering, in pink. . .(as soon as I can figure out what size to order since they're unisex sizes. . .I need to find a ruler)  lol

Michelle, click on their 'size chart' to the left...it breaks down the sizes.

They are unisex...for example I normally wear a 8.5 or a 9 usually in shoes, depending on the style, maker etc.

In the Havaianas, I wear a 7/8 or a 39/40 depending on which website you shop with aka USA/Brazil sizing. My foot just barely fits onto that size, and the 9/10 was WAY too big.

Let me know what you think...I can't wait to get my new pairs!

Don't know if you have heard of Dansko brand, American Podiatrist approved.  I wear them all the time.  Though they are not cheap, they are worth it for stand and walking.  They have some cute sandals and slides on their outlet online store.  www.danskooutlet.com  You can sometimes get them at www.sierratradingpost.com for up to 50% off.

Also Clarks has are comfy as well.  Nordstroms online have some models on sale.

I love love love my Havaianas too, they are super comfy from the first wear and I *only* wear flip flops (I have zero shoes :) so I should know  The people who brought them into Spore are such rip offs and charge a minimum of SIN$25 for a pair, but then again anything that comes into Spore from overseas (America, Europe, etc) tends to come with an over inflated price.

I don't know how expensive or cheap Birkies are in America, but this is a site https://www.german-shoes-online.com/ I know of that sells them. Here, they are at least SIN$90 and above...

Hi Michelle,  Here is a pic of my Teva flip flops.  I copied this from the flipflop siteMara posted.  These are so comforatble right from the start, like wearing slippers!  They come in a lot of different colors.  The other sandels I like are from Clarks.  I can't wear their shoes as well as I wear their sandels.

Good luck!

oooh belle, I absolutely adore zappos.com too.  they are the absolute best- free shipping, plus free return shipping (for a year!) if you don't like the shoes or they don't fit for some reason.  they also price match if you find a shoe somewhere else on the net cheaper.  if you have some cash to waste, i definitely recommend taryn rose.  she is fairly pricey, but supposedly unmatched in comfort.  she's a former orthopaedic surgeon, so i figure she probably knows what she is talking about!  check out these sandals- Taryn Rose Tyra Sandals  i really really want to buy a pair, but i don't think bf is buying it with my lack of job forever in school state.  i'm trying to remember that any money i waste now only means i'll have to wait longer for my e-ring

I'd have to agree with all the votes for Teva, Clarks and Birks. I also LIVE in my Reef flip flops, they are so cushiony and can get wet and still be just as comfy.
Happy shopping, looking forward to warmer weather to I can slip on my sandals.

that's really the only place i buy my shoes now, unless i'm shopping a sale somewhere.  i have found so many new favorite brands and styles, my shoe collection has expanded rapidly since discovering zappos!

oooh...the taryn rose look very comfy!  i'm pretty sure i can't spend almost $300 on sandals though!! ....nice leather boots, yes....shoes for work when i will be walking for 12hrs, yes.........sandals just don't make that short list!

i will be checking out the havaianas though!  mara, you're description of them being littered all over the floor was tooo funny....that definitely describes my current flip flop collection!

LOVE ZAPPOS.        Currently have two pairs of wedding shoes and some after ceremony flip-flop like things from them that I am pondering as to which I am keeping.

Swear by BORN and Danskos.   They both are some of the most comfortable shoes/sandels I own and they last and last.

Born @ Zappos:  http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722001321.html

Dansko @ Zappos:  http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722013478.html

This thread reminds me I need to start getting the pedicures back on the schedule so my feet don't look like a mountain trolls by the time spring rolls around here in Chicago.

As mingagreen mentioned above, Reef Flip Flops are by far the most comfortable flip flops i've ever worn. I dont know if they are dressy enough for you though. I wear them all summer long, walk everywhere with them and have never felt a slight twinge of pain. I never really realized how especially comfortable they were until one day I had put on a different pair and was walking around and my feet were getting rubbed all the wrong ways. I finally went and changed into my Reefs and the relief was instant! Now I never wear any other flip flops but those.

Michelle, click on their 'size chart' to the left...it breaks down the sizes.

lol - thanks. . .I had found the sizing chart, but had a few glasses of wine, so I wasn't about to order anything at that moment.  About two weeks ago, my husband kind of took over the kids while I kicked back with a few drinks.  The next morning, my inbox was flooded with emails from bebe and Sephora thanking me for my orders!  lol  Surprisingly, I order cute stuff while tipsy.

Sluke - The Dansko site you posted has some really cute shoes and not too expensive, either.  Seventy dollars for a pair of shoes is okay for me.  I think $300 would get me in trouble with my significant other (lol) as he doesn't approve of shoes over $100 , but if I found the perfect pair, I'd possibly splurge for rain proof shoes - might be a waste buying expensive sandles here in Seattle, but the weather has been amazing lately so this may be the best year to go overboard.

The Teva shoes look really cozy!  These may work for errand running as I do need shoes for more walking. . . but, not too dressy as I'm working from home (sort of - mostly pretending to work ) and almost exclusively wear jeans with semi - dressy shirts. . .

I'd love to wear sandles w/heels along with my jeans, but I'd for certain trip over my feet.  Am I the only one here too uncoordinated to wear any heels except chunkier ones?

LOVE ZAPPOS
oh, you're right.  I found two pairs I LOVE!  Wow, very cute and look comfortable too.

I'm still looking up all the brands listed, but should be trying these ones on!  Some are over $100 so I'll have to butter my husband up with a tenderloin steak dinner (lol!)  J/K - He's at the point where he says he just doesn't want to know about what I'm doing and how much I'm spending.  lol

Oh, and regarding pedicures, I've been lathering my toes with shea butter cuticle cream every night before bed and my nails look a lot healthier!  This an easy way to boost your toes' esteem before they see the light of day this spring!  lol

Did you look at Born sandals on Zappos.com?  They're so comfy and wedges and espadrilles are really big this year.

Don't forget Chaco's! I have a pair of Z2's and they are the most comfortable things on the planet! Very cute too - I get tons of compliments on them, and they've got enough support to go hiking through the Nebraska sandhills for a day!

www.chacousa.com

ETA: Chaco has a lot of heel-strapless sandals too - Z/rivatives, and some cute fashion sandals in addition to the Performance sandals (like Z2 above).
